The Shetland
Ringing Group grew out of a ringing partnership in the late 1970s between
Brian Marshall and Dave Okill. The group is responsible for most of the
ringing activities taking place in Shetland outside Fair Isle, although
Glasgow University, De Montfort University and Tony Martin also use their
own rings in the islands.
SRG activities concentrate on seabird ringing,
especially Cormorants and Guillemots, and long-term studies of other
breeding birds, including Merlins, Ravens and, most notably, Red-throated
Divers. Small numbers of migrants are also trapped at a few suitable sites.
The
secretary of the Shetland Ringing Group is Dave Okill.
