Colin Petrie reported a pod of 6-7 KILLER WHALES off the Vere, south-east Unst.

An adult PILOT WHALE was off Railsbrough, Cat Firth, north of Wadbister.

The Trondra SPERM WHALE was brought ashore, broken up and buried at Rova Head landfill today.

The Trondra SPERM WHALE was towed around the south Mainland to Lerwick during the day and moored in Dales Voe overnight to be brought ashore for burial at Rova Head landfill.

The Trondra SPERM WHALE has unfortunately died and is floating off Trondra. It will probably be taken to Lerwick for disposal at Rova Head.

The Trondra SPERM WHALE managed to refloat itself about mid-day and headed off south down Clift Sound. Unfortunately it turned round and came back ashore on Trondra later in the afternoon.

This RINGED SEAL is still at Cullivoe (Yell).

This RINGED SEAL was at Cullivoe (Yell). It is only the second record for Shetland of this species, which is found mainly in the High Arctic but with an isolated population in the northern Baltic. The only other record was in 1968 on Whalsay, shot, no date given (Berry & Johnston 1980).

40ft SPERM WHALE washed ashore at Haroldswick beach (Unst). It is just starting to decompose as it has no skin but the head and tail are still intact.

8+ WHITE-BEAKED DOLPHINS off Sumburgh Head this morning.

50+ WHITE-SIDED DOLPHINS and 2 WHITE-BEAKED DOLPHINS were off Lamba Ness, Unst from 5.30 to 7.30pm.
Two WHITE-SIDED DOLPHINS have stranded on the shore just north of Gardie on Bressay. Unfortunately they were found dead and will be sent to the Scottish Agricultural College in Inverness for post-mortem. The animals were 2.6m and 2.3m in length.

Norman Milligan reported a dolphin sp. off Wats Ness (west Mainland) this evening. Very brief views were obtained - it looked silvery-grey above and white below and leaped well clear of the water.

Jonathan Wills reported 6 RISSO'S DOLPHINS (5 adults, 1 juv) in Vassa Voe, South Nesting, swimming very slowly around the inner part of the voe, mostly in water less than 5m deep, keeping close together and possibly supporting/nursing/comforting one of the party which appeared to have an injured dorsal fin.
