Chiffchaff on Whalsay - Jason Atkinson; Bean Goose at Rewick and Grey Heron at Boddam - Hugh Harrop

A Tundra Bean Geese is at Rerwick, near Bigton and a European White-fronted Goose, a Pink-footed Goose and 2 Barnacle Geese are at Spiggie. A Greenfinch is at Sound, Lerwick. There are 40 Purple Sandpipers and 40 Wigeons at Sandness, and 374 Lapwings at Bixter.

On Unst, a Song Thrush is at Skaw, a Chiffchaff and a Dunnock are at Norwick, a Sparrowhawk and a Long-eared Owl are at Northdale, there are 6 Common Scoters, 5 Slavonian Grebes, a Little Grebe, a Long-eared Owl and an adult European White-fronted Goose at Baltasound, and 2 Common Scoters are still on Loch of Snarravoe.

On Whalsay, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff are at Brough, and the 8 Whooper Swans, a Black Redstart and a Chiffchaff at still at Skaw.

Saturday 21st November 2009

Long-tailed Duck at Scalloway - Hugh Harrop

There are 3 European White-fronted Geese at Scatness, a Jack Snipe, a Grey Wagtail and 5 Chiffchaffs (2 Siberian) at Quendale, and an adult
European White-fronted Goose and 2 Barnacle Geese at Ringasta. A Water Rail is at Brae.

On Whalsay, there are 5 Jack Snipes at Symbister, 31 Pink-footed Geese at Brough, and 8 Whooper Swans, a Black Redstart and a Chiffchaff at Skaw.

A very late Wheatear is at Haroldswick.

Friday 20th November 2009

A Coot is at Loch of Clickimin. On Yell, 14 Whooper Swans are on Kirk Loch. There are 5 Common Scoters, 2 Chiffchaffs and a Jackdaw at Baltasound.

Thursday 19th November 2009

A Woodcock is near the Kveldsro Hotel and a Blackcap is at the Sletts, Lerwick. A Water Rail is at Oxensetter, Northmavine. There are 2 Common Scoters in Loch of Snarravoe and 2 Chiffchaffs at Baltasound on Unst.

Wednesday 18th November 2009

Long-tailed Ducks at Lerwick - Jim Nicolson; Jackdaw, Snow Bunting and Rock Pipit at Burravoe, Yell - Dougie Preston

The American Wigeon is still at Hillwell, a Black Redstart and a Grey Wagtail are at Scord, Sumburgh, a Reed Bunting and 3 Blackcaps are at Sumburgh, and a Gadwall is still at Grutness. A Long-eared Owl is at Burra and a Chiffchaff and 2 Stonechats are at Clickimin.

There are 4 Slavonian Grebes, a Jackdaw and 4 Common Redpolls at Baltasound.

Tuesday 17th November 2009

Bean Goose at Brake - Roger Riddington; Little Gull on Yell - Dougie Preston

The Tundra Bean Geese is still at Brake, north of Hillwell, a Black Redstart is at Boddam and 2 Little Grebes are at Hillwell.  A Goosander and 2 Coots are on Loch of Tingwall. A Blackcap is still at the Sletts in Lerwick, and a Song Thrush is at Gremista.

A Little Gull is at Burravoe on Yell.

Monday 16th November 2009

Snipe at Scalloway - Karn Crow

An adult White-billed Diver is in Bluemull Sound.

The single Tundra Bean Geese are at still at Bigton and at Brake, north of Hillwell, with a Jackdaw also at Brake. There are 4 Woodcocks at Sullom Voe Terminal.

On Bressay, a Woodcock and 2 Song Thrushes are at Voehead and a Bar-tailed Godwit and 12 Dunlins are at Kirkabister.

Sunday 15th November 2009

Bean Geese at Brake (3 photos) and Bigton (3 photos) - Hugh Harrop; Snow Buntings at Burravoe - Dougie Preston; Snipe at Brough, Whalsay - Jon Dunn

There are single Tundra Bean Geese at Bigton and at Brake, north of Hillwell, while the American Wigeon is still at Hillwell, along with 4 Jackdaws. There are 8 Greenfinches at Sound, Lerwick. There are 2 Short-eared Owls and a Reed Bunting at Brig of Bakkasetter, 2 Common Scoters and 5 Scaups on Loch of Brow, and a Stonechat at Spiggie.

On Fetlar, a Little Gull was in Wick of Tresta and there are also 2 Jackdaws, a Long-eared Owl, 2 Common Scoters and 2 Song Thrushes on the island.

On Unst, a Jackdaw and a Bar-tailed Godwit are at Uyeasound, 2 Song Thrushes and 18 Skylarks are at Westing, a Chiffchaff is at Baltasound and a Blackcap is at Skaw.

On Yell, a Woodcock and a Black Redstart are at West Sandwick, a Woodcock is at Ulsta and a Knot is at Burravoe, while 2 Little Auks were seen in Yell Sound.

On Out Skerries there are 3 Woodcocks and a Dunnock.

There are 4 Robins and a Chaffinch on Whalsay.

Saturday 14th November 2009

Siberian Chiffchaff at Virkie - Roger Riddington; Snipe at Baltasound - Mike Pennington; Long-tailed Ducks and Eiders at Lerwick - Hugh Harrop

A Siberian Chiffchaff is at Virkie.

A Jackdaw and a Common Redpoll are at Baltasound and a Water Rail is at Haroldswick.

There are 2 Woodcocks at Sullom Voe Terminal.

On Whalsay, a very late Garden Warbler is at Saltness, a Song Thrush is at Skaw, a Woodcock is at Symbister, and 3 White-fronted Geese and a Chaffinch are at Brough.

A probable Red Kite was reported at Ollaberry.

There are 4 Woodcocks at Sullom Voe Terminal.

The American Wigeon is still at Hillwell, and a Pink-footed Goose and a Wood Pigeon are at Spiggie.

Gadwalls at Scatness - Jim Nicolson; Common Scoter at Skaw - Rob Brookes

The American Wigeon is at Hillwell, the Green-winged Teal is at Scatness, along with 45 Snow Buntings, a Tundra Bean Goose is at Brow along with a Common Scoter, 2 Barnacle Geese, a Shoveler, 2 Water Rails and a Little Grebe are at Spiggie, and 3 Gadwalls are at Grutness. A Little Auk is in Mousa Sound and a Water Rail is on Mousa.

On Unst, there are Common Scoters at Skaw and Loch of Snarravoe, a Velvet Scoter, a Little Grebe and a Whinchat at Baltasound, a Glaucous Gull at Burrafirth, and the Coot still at Uyeasound.

On Fetlar there are 3 Woodcocks, a Common Scoter, a Long-eared Owl, a Dunnock, 3 Chiffchaffs and a Jackdaw.

On Yell there are 11 Bar-tailed Godwits at Loch of Littlester and 2 at Hamnavoe.

Long-eared Owls at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson; American Wigeon at Hillwell - Roger Riddington

The male American Wigeon is at Loch of Hillwell, along with the Green-winged Teal and a Grey Wagtail. There are 2 Long-eared Owls at Cunningsburgh. A flock of 15 Jackdaws flew over the Knab, Lerwick.

Little Auk at Norwick - Rob Brookes

A late Wheatear is at Spiggie. A Jackdaw is at Nesbister. A late Barred Warbler, a late Tree Pipit and a Blackcap are at Laxfirth, Tingwall. A Blackcap is still at the Sletts, Lerwick. The Water Rail is still at Brae.

On Unst, a Little Auk and a Woodcock are at Norwick, a Pink-footed Goose is at Haroldswick and 2 Water Rails are at Baltasound.

Sunday 8th November 2009

A male American Wigeon is at Loch of Brow along with a Common Scoter, 2 Coots, a Gadwall and 5 Pochards, and a Tundra Bean Goose is at Spiggie, along with a Barnacle Goose, a Gadwall and a Shoveler. A Gadwall, a Pochard, and the Green-winged Teal are at Loch of Hillwell, a Gadwall, a Water Rail and a Woodcock at Grutness, there are 3 Short-eared Owls, 4 Jack Snipes, 200 Snipes and a Woodcock in the Brig of Bakkasetter (Brow Marsh), 7 Pink-footed Geese are still at Fleck, a Knot is at the Pool of Virkie, a Sparrowhawk is at Scatness and a Woodcock is at Maywick. A Dark-bellied Brent Goose is at Levenwick.

There are 2 Tundra Bean Geese at Eshaness. A Water Rail, a Wood Pigeon, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff are at Sandgarth, Voe. A flock of 12 Greenfinches are at Sound, Lerwick. Up to 12 Blackcaps are at Whiteness. There are 20 Chaffinches at Veensgarth and 2 Wood Pigeons and 48 Blackbirds at Kergord.

On Unst, there are 2 Tundra Bean Geese at Muness and one at Westing, a very late Tree Pipit, a Reed Bunting, a Moorhen, a Coot and a Bar-tailed Godwit at Uyeasound, a Common Scoter on Loch of Snarravoe and 2 Black Redstarts at Baltasound.

On Whalsay, there are 3 European White-fronted Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, a Woodcock, a Grey Wagtail and 3 Chiffchaffs.

A Blackcap is at Voehead on Bressay.

The male Hen Harrier was at Quendale, along with 3 tristis-type Chiffchaffs, the Green-winged Teal and an adult Peregrine Falcon are at Hillwell, a Dunnock and 2 Woodcocks at Sumburgh, and 2 Long-eared Owls are at Grutness. A Short-eared Owl, 4 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap and a Wood Pigeon are at Virkie and there are 6 Jack Snipes, a first-year Glaucous Gull and 2 Woodcocks at Scatness. There are 2 Chiffchaffs at Cunningsburgh. A Blackcap is at the Sletts in Lerwick. A Chaffinch is at Twatt. A Woodcock is on Trondra.

On Unst, a Sparrowhawk, a Woodcock and a Chaffinch are at Skaw, and a Goldfinch, a Blackcap, a Chiffchaff, a Water Rail, 3 Wood Pigeons and 5 Common Scoters are at Baltasound.

A Water Rail, a Chaffinch and 2 Jackdaws are on Out Skerries.

Friday 6th November 2009

Hen Harrier at Sumburgh - Gary Bell; Curlew Sandpiper on Unst - Rob Brookes; Mistle Thrush at Maywick - Hugh Harrop

The Hen Harrier is still at Sumburgh and there are 2 European White-fronted Geese, a Dark-bellied Brent Goose and 7 Pink-footed Geese at Fleck. A Mistle Thrush is at Maywick.

The Curlew Sandpiper is still at Westing on Unst and at least 3 Jackdaws are still at Baltasound.

Thursday 5th November 2009

Dusky Warbler, Snow Bunting and Bluethroat on Whalsay - Jason Atkinson; Bean Geese on Foula - Geoff Atherton; Hen Harrier at Sumburgh - George Petrie

A Dusky Warbler is at Sandwick, Whalsay, with the Bluethroat still at Brough and 2 Woodcocks and a Black Redstart at Skaw.

There are 2 Tundra Bean Geese at Stremness, Foula.

A Firecrest is at Twageos Road, Lerwick.  A Stock Dove is at Kergord. A Black Redstart and a Mistle Thrush are at Sullom Voe Terminal. A Common Redpoll was found dead at Brae. There are 6 Rooks at Bridge of Walls and 70 Ringed Plovers at Sandness.

The Green-winged Teal is still at Hillwell along with a Yellowhammer and 2 Reed Buntings, the Hen Harrier is still at Sumburgh and there are 3 European White-fronted Geese and 8 Pink-footed Geese at Fleck.

Wednesday 4th November 2009

Olive-backed Pipit at Grutness - Roger Riddington; Water Rail, Redshank, Shag and Curlew at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson

An Olive-backed Pipit is at Grutness, and a male Hen Harrier and 5 Woodcocks are at Sumburgh. A Woodcock and a Blackcap are at Ocraquoy. A Jackdaw and a Woodcock are at Sullom Voe Terminal.

The Wheatear is still at Brough on Whalsay. The Coot is still at Loch of Tingwall. A Water Rail is visiting a garden in Brae.

Monday 2nd November 2009

White-fronted Geese at Virkie - Rob Fray; Purple Sandpiper at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson; Redshanks and Turnstones at Boddam - Charles Gifford

A late Wheatear is at Virkie along with 2 European White-fronted Geese, a Reed Bunting and a Water Rail. A Grey Wagtail and a Woodcock are at Toab. A Blackcap is at the Sletts, Lerwick. The Richard's Pipit is still at North Roe, 3 Scaups, a Common Scoter and a Little Grebe are at North Roe and a Black Redstart is at Firth.

On Whalsay, another late Wheatear, a Short-eared Owl and 4 Jackdaws are at Brough, the Lesser Whitethroat is still at Sandwick and a Black Redstart is at Skaw.

On Unst, a Blackcap and a Reed Bunting are at Skaw, a Chiffchaff is at Norwick and the Coot is still at Uyeasound.

Short-toed Lark on Unst - Rob Brookes; Bluethroat on Whalsay - Jason Atkinson; Chiffchaff at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson; Swan Goose (of the domestic form known as 'Chinese Goose' at Strand - Gordon Waddell

On Unst, a Short-toed Lark is at Skaw, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff are at Norwick, 11 Jackdaws are at Baltasound and the Coot is still at Uyeasound.

On Whalsay, a late Bluethroat is at Brough, along with a Common Redpoll, 2 Chiffchaffs and a Blackcap., while 2 Black Redstarts, 5 Chiffchaffs, a Woodcock and 3 Jack Snipes are at Skaw.

Another late Bluethroat is at Sandgarth, Voe, along with a Water Rail, 2 Common Redpolls, a Dunnock and 5 Blackcaps. A late Swallow is at Sandness, along with a late Sanderling. A Blackcap and a Chiffchaff are in Dale of Walls. A Coot is Loch of Tingwall and a Goosander is on Loch of Tingwall. There are 3 Chiffchaffs at Cunningsburgh.

On Out Skerries, there are 5 Woodcocks and the Stock Dove is still present.
