A Robin and 24 Snow Buntings are at Twatt. A Jack Snipe and a Water Rail are at Cunningsburgh and the Dunnock and a Siskin are at Ocraquoy.

The male King Eider is still in Mousa Sound. The Smew and the hybrid Mallard x Pintail are still at Scatness and there are 13 Snow Buntings near Scord. There are 40 Skylarks, a Barnacle Goose and a Slavonian Grebe at Spiggie, a Scaup at Loch of Brow and a first-winter Glaucous Gull, a Jack Snipe, a Water Rail, a Snow Bunting, a Goldcrest, the Black-tailed Godwit and 120 Jackdaws at Virkie. A Hen Harrier, a Wood Pigeon and 3 Siskins are at Cunningsburgh.

There are 2 Water Rails at Sandgarth, Voe. A Sparrowhawk is on Trondra.

Siskins at Cunningsburgh and Rock Pipit at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson; Whooper Swans at Loch of Benston - Gordon Carle

An exceptionally early Swallow has been reported from Hoswick. There are 3 Siskins at Cunningsburgh. A Pink-footed Goose is at  Boddam, the Black-tailed Godwit is at Virkie and the Smew and the hybrid Mallard x Pintail are at Scatness.

There were 38 Grey Herons at Loch of Vatser and 4 Goosanders are at Catfirth.

A Bar-tailed Godwit and a Robin are at Baltasound.

Lapwing at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson

An exceptionally early Swallow has been reported from Channerwick. There are 3 Siskins at Cunningsburgh. A Glaucous Gull is at the Catch in Lerwick. An Iceland Gull is still at Hamnavoe on Yell.

The redhead Smew and Mallard x Pintail hybrid are at Scatness, 4 Jackdaws and 4 Redwings are at Melby, a Water Rail is at Sandgarth, Voe and an Iceland Gull is at Hamnavoe, Yell.

Dunnock at Ocraquoy - George Petrie; Grey Herons at Loch of Vatster - Gordon Carle

The drake King Eider is still in Mousa Sound. A Dunnock and 3 Siskins are at Ocraquoy, a Dunnock is at Virkie and 28 Grey Herons are at Loch of Vatster.

Monday 17th March 2008

A male Hen Harrier is at Basta, Yell. There are 15 Snow Buntings at Twatt and 5 at Sullom Voe. A Chaffinch and a Robin are at the Sletts in Lerwick.

Great Northern Diver at Kirkabister and Grey Heron at Gletness - Tony Gerrard

A Water Rail is at Boddam and a Snow Bunting is at Virkie.

Saturday 15th March 2008

A White-billed Diver, the smaller-billed of the two adults, is still of Hamars Ness, Fetlar.

A Sparrowhawk is at Sullom Voe, 18 Jackdaws and 3 Wood Pigeons are at Strand and 2 Coots are at Loch of Tingwall. A female Chaffinch is at the Sletts in Lerwick and a Pied Wagtail is at the Co-op in Lerwick. There are 2 Wood Pigeons, a Goldcrest, a Robin and 3 Siskins at Ocraquoy and 7 Siskins at Scousburgh.

On Unst, a Carrion Crow and a Great Northern Diver are at Haroldswick.

A Dunnock is at Scousburgh, a Goldcrest is at Sumburgh Hotel and 39 Grey Herons are at Loch of Vatster.

Stonechat at Sumburgh and Red-breasted Mergansers at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson

There are 3 Stonechats at Sumburgh Head and a Black-tailed Godwit at Virkie. Three first-winter Iceland Gulls and an adult Glaucous Gull are at Gremista and an adult Iceland Gull is at Loch of Tingwall. A Redwing, a Fieldfare and 5 Siskins are at Ocraquoy and a Snow Bunting is at Sullom Voe.

A Stonechat and a Yellowhammer are on Fetlar.

There are 2 Stonechats, a Robin, a Kestrel, a Song Thrush and 3 Redwings at Sumburgh Head, a Stonechat at Grutness, the redhead Smew and 2 Little Grebes at Hillwell and a Black-tailed Godwit, a Water Rail, 2 Fieldfares, a Shelduck and 120 Jackdaws at Virkie. A Song Thrush is at Wester Quarff, a Barnacle Goose is at Twatt, 11 Redwings are at Bousta and 4 Jackdaws are at Norby.

On Yell, an Iceland Gull is at Hamnavoe and a Wood Pigeon is at Burravoe. An alba wagtail is on Out Skerries and a Robin is at Voehead, Bressay.

A Sandwich Tern is at Grutness; it is the earliest ever in Shetland by 6 days. A Snow Bunting is also at Grutness and a male Stonechat is at Sumburgh Head. A Dunnock and 3 Siskins are at Scousburgh and 7 Redwings and a Goldcrest are at Sandgarth, Voe.

An alba wagtail is on Out Skerries.

The 2 Velvet Scoters are still at Catfirth. Three Goosanders are at Dales Voe, Delting and 6 Siskins are at Scousburgh. 120 Jackdaws roosted at Virkie. There are 25 Jackdaws, 10 Wood Pigeons and a Siskin at Kergord, 3 Siskins at Twatt and 350 Wigeon at Loch of Benston. A Pheasant is at Loch of Freester.

On Yell, an Iceland Gull and 6 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Hamnavoe.

Ravens in south mainland - Hugh Harrop

The redhead Smew is at Loch of Hillwell. Three Lesser Black-backed Gulls are at Ringasta and another is at Sandwick. 12 Siskins are at Baila House, Lerwick. A Snow Bunting is at Bight of Stavaness, Nesting.

120 Jackdaws and a Water Rail are at Virkie. Four Siskins are at Scalloway and another was found dead beneath a window there. Two Siskins are at Scousburgh.

A Song Thrush is at Sotland, Burrafirth, Unst.

The Killdeer is still at Pool of Virkie, along with a drake Gadwall, and 120 Jackdaws roosted there. A male Bullfinch is at Bakland, Lerwick. The redhead Smew and a Shelduck are at Scatness and 30 Grey Herons are at Loch of Vatster. A first-winter Iceland Gull is at the Catch in Lerwick.

On Unst, a male Hen Harrier is at Alma, 3 Jackdaws are at Baltasound, 3 Goosanders and 6 Whooper Swans are at Easter Loch and 10 Purple Sandpipers are at Westing.

Thursday 6th March 2008

The Killdeer has returned to Virkie, and was at Point of Tangpool this evening. The Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits are also still at Virkie. The first-winter male Common Scoter is still off Leog, Lerwick, 71 Grey Herons are in the Loch of Vatster area and 2 Skylarks are singing at Scousburgh.

A male Bullfinch is at Upper Sound, Lerwick. Also in Lerwick there are 3 first-winter Iceland Gulls and 2 first-winter Glaucous Gulls at the Catch. Two first-winter Iceland Gulls are at Wester Quarff and a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Scalloway. Three Common Scoters and 13 Knot are at Catfirth, a Hen Harrier is at Cunningsburgh and 3 Siskins are at Oxensetter, Northmavine.

Three Iceland Gulls, including an adult, are on Bressay.

A pale-bellied Brent Goose is at Firth and a Peregrine Falcon is at Twatt. The redhead Smew is still at Scatness, a Little Grebe is at Hillwell and 100 Jackdaws are at Virkie.

On Unst, 5 Skylarks and a Lesser Black-backed Gull are at Burrafirth .

Turnstones and Purple Sandpipers at Leebitton - Hugh Harrop

Three White-billed Divers were reported in South Nesting Bay off Skellister, but only the regular adult could be found during the afternoon. The drake Green-winged Teal and 19 Whooper Swans are at Loch of Tingwall, 14 Jackdaws are at Gott, 15 Knot are at Catfirth and 57 Grey Herons are at Loch of Vatster. Two Common Scoters are at Dury Voe, a Common Scoter, 2 Red-throated Divers, 29 Long-tailed Ducks and 80 Wigeon are at Melby and a Barnacle Goose is at Twatt. The redhead Smew is still at Hillwell.

On Unst, a Great Northern Diver is at Haroldswick.

The Green-winged Teal is still at Loch of Tingwall and 2 Goosanders are at Strand. A Glaucous Gull and 2 Iceland Gulls are at the Catch in Lerwick. There are 15 Siskins at Cunningsburgh, 4 Siskins at North Road, Lerwick and a Song Thrush at Sandwick.
