The adult Spoonbill
is relocated at Voxter Voe and later moved to Brae, on Busta Voe below the Mid
Brae Inn.
There are 3 first-winter Iceland Gulls at
Scalloway and a first-winter Glaucous Gull at the Shetland Catch in
Lerwick. A Black Redstart is at Fladdabister. There are 2 Stonechats and 5
Redwings at Ocraquoy. A Song Thrush and a
Jack Snipe are at Sumburgh Hotel.
A male Reed Bunting and 24 Chaffinches
are at Baltasound.

The adult Spoonbill
is still at Graven, next to Sullom Voe Terminal.
A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at
Shetland Catch in Lerwick. There are 41 Grey Herons at the roost at
Brindister Voe.
There are 2 Common Redpolls on Fetlar.

Storm-blasted Raven, Red-throated Diver,
Goosander and Glaucous Gull at Uyeasound -

The juvenile
White-billed Diver was in Skuda Sound, just east of Uyeasound, along
with a male Velvet Scoter in mid-afternoon. A second-winter Glaucous
Gull is at Uyeasound. A Mistle Thrush is Burrafirth and a Song
Thrush is at Belmont.
The Spoonbill
is now at Graven, next to Sullom Voe Terminal.
An adult Black-throated Diver is in West Voe
of Quarff. The male King Eider
is still in Mousa Sound. Another adult Black-throated Diver
is in Bay of Quendale and there are 5 Stonechats at Grutness and one at
Toab. A Chiffchaff is at Weisdale.
There are 2 Common Redpolls and a male
Stonechat at Burravoe, Yell.
There are 8 first-winter Iceland Gulls at
Scalloway and 2 male Goosanders at Strand Loch.
Saturday 24th February 2007
There are no less than 62 Great Northern
Divers sheltering on the north side of Muness, Unst, following 36 hrs of
strong southerly winds. A ringtail Hen Harrier and the Goosander
are at Uyeasound, and the 5 Barnacle Geese, the 2 Carrion Crows
and a first-winter Iceland Gull are at Baltasound.
The Chaffinch flock at Bixter has gone
back up to 80.
Wednesday 21st February 2007
A Spoonbill is on Whalsay,
although it is mobile and has been seen at Isbister and Challister so far. It is
the 6th Shetland, the last being a bird which wandered around in autumn 2003
before last being seen on 1st January 2004. Winter records in Scotland are very
unusual, however, so quite where it has arrived from is a bit of a mystery.

There are 10 Snow Buntings, 30 Fieldfares, 11
Redwings and 30 Chaffinches at Bixter.

The Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of
Tingwall and there are 7 Iceland
Gulls at 7 Scalloway and 5 at Loch of Asta, all first-winters.
There are 2 Sparrowhawks in Brae.
A
Little Auk is West Voe of Quarff.

Shag at Belmont -

A juvenile
White-billed Diver is at Uyeasound. A 'blue' Fulmar is at
Skaw, Unst. The 5 Barnacle Geese are still at Baltasound.
The male King Eider
is still in Mousa Sound. The Green-winged Teal
is still at Scatness, the Smew is still on Loch of Spiggie, a
Peregrine Falcon is at Troswick and a Velvet Scoter is in West Voe of
Sumburgh.
The Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall,
along with a Pochard, and there are 4
Iceland Gulls (all first-winters) at Scalloway. There are 298 Curlews
and 78 Wigeons at Loch of Housetter in North Roe. There are 3 Glaucous
Gulls and 2 Iceland Gulls at Shetland Catch in Lerwick.

The Black-throated Diver has been reported
from Melby again, there are 126 Wigeons at Norby, and 15 Fieldfares
and 8 Chaffinches at Bixter.

The partial albino Turnstone at Scatness is here for it's
4th winter.
Oystercatchers are slowly returning and there were 23
around Walls today.
The released Rough-legged Buzzard of the North American
race was at Fladdabister in the afternoon.

Glaucous Gull at Uyeasound -

The Green-winged Teal is
still at Scatness, the Smew was on Loch of Spiggie and later on Brow, the
Little Gull is still at Loch of Hillwell and a Scaup is on Loch of
Spiggie.
An adult Glaucous Gull is at
Uyeasound, and the 5 Barnacle Geese are at Baltasound, along with at
least 355 Greylag Geese, including the neck-collared bird.
Friday 9th February 2007
A Whimbrel is on Out Skerries, along with 3 Glaucous Gulls and 27
Purple Sandpipers.
There are 21 Knots at Gardie,
Bressay, along with a first-winter Glaucous Gull.
Thursday 8th February 2007
There are 2 Little Grebes, 2 Shelducks, 7
Moorhens and 400 Greylag Geese at Spiggie. There are 36
Oystercatchers around Sumburgh and Spiggie and 3 Bar-tailed Godwits
are at Pool of Virkie.
Another 300 Greylag Geese are at
Tingwall. There are 8 Chaffinches at Bixter. A flock of 300 Curlews
is at Oxensetter in Northmavine.

A Green-winged Teal
has finally returned to Scatness, the first sighting this winter. There are also
2 Pochards and 40 Tufted Ducks there. A male Stonechat is
at Sandwick.
A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at
Shetland Catch in Lerwick, a Meadow Pipit is at Frakkafield and the
female Sparrowhawk is still at Catfirth. A Goosander and a
first-winter Iceland Gull are at Laxo. There are 5 first-winter
Iceland Gulls, the third-winter Kumlien's Gull and a first-winter Glaucous
Gull at Scalloway. Another first-winter Iceland
Gull is at Loch of Asta.
There were 67 Slavonian Grebes
counted between Whiteness and Skeld.

There are 2 returning Oystercatchers
at Baltasound.

There are 93 Wigeons, a male Goosander, a Grey
Heron and a Bar-tailed Godwit are at the mouth of the Sandgarth burn
at Dales Voe, Delting. There are 7 first-winter Iceland Gulls at Trondra,
opposite Scalloway. A Glaucous Gull has been coming to a garden at Firth
for food for several weeks. A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Scord.
There are 4 first-winter Iceland Gulls
at Westing, Unst, as well as a returning Oystercatcher.

A White-billed Diver was off
Kirkabister, Nesting, and there are 12 Redwings and 12 Chaffinches
around South Nesting.
A third-winter Iceland Gull showing
characters of Kumlien's Gull is at Quendale.
Thursday 1st February 2007 The
Goshawk was
reported at Catfirth again today.
Wednesday 31st January 2007
There are 2 White-billed Divers off
Kirkabister, Nesting, along with a Little Auk. There were 95 Purple
Sandpipers roosting at he Knab, Lerwick.
There are 44 Long-tailed Ducks at Melby
and 223 Golden Plovers at Walls. The first-winter Little Gull and
the redhead Smew are still at Loch of Hillwell. A first-winter
Glaucous Gull is at the Catch in Lerwick.
Tuesday 30th January 2007
There are 2 Goosanders at the head of Weisdale Voe. A Carrion Crow
is at Wester Quarff. There are 5 Barnacle Geese at Baltasound. There are
2 first-winter Iceland Gulls and a first-winter Glaucous Gull in
Scalloway, a first-winter Iceland Gull at Loch of Clickimin and a
first-winter Glaucous Gull at the Catch in Lerwick.

Iceland Gull and Glaucous Gulls at Burrafirth

The Ring-necked Duck and a
first-winter Iceland Gull are at Loch of Tingwall and there are 7
Iceland Gulls (all first-winters) at Scalloway. A Carrion Crow is at
Urafirth.
A first-winter Iceland Gull and 3
Glaucous Gulls (a third-winter and 2 first-winters) are at Burrafirth.
Sunday 28th January 2007 The
first-winter Little Gull and the redhead Smew are still at Loch of
Hillwell, a Peregrine Falcon is at St Ninian's Isle and a first-winter
Glaucous Gull is at Spiggie, along with a Little Grebe, 9
Coots and 373 Lapwings.
The
Water Rail is still on Trondra. A Song Thrush is at Voehead,
Bressay. There are 4 Greenfinches at Bixter.
Saturday 27th January 2007 There
are still 2 Moorhens and a Water Rail at Sandgarth, Voe.
Just 16 Chaffinches remain in the field at
Bixter, but another 8 and a Greenfinch are at a garden nearby.
A Stonechat is at Uyeasound.

Glaucous Gull and Iceland Gull at Scalloway -

The
Goshawk was at Catfirth
again at mid-day, although there was also a male and a female Sparrowhawk
there, as well as a 2 Woodcocks. A first-winter Glaucous Gull and
and 10 first-winter Iceland Gulls are at Scalloway. The released
Rough-legged Buzzard of the North American race is still at Channerwick.
Thursday 25th January 2007 The
Goshawk that
was possibly seen at Catfirth on Saturday was seen perched on the same fencepost
in the rain during the afternoon.
The Smew is still at Loch of Hillwell. An adult male Peregrine Falcon is at
Bixter, while about 25 Chaffinches still remain.
There were 9 Glaucous Gulls at Burrafirth,
4 adults and 5 first-winters.

Iceland Gull and Mute Swan at Scalloway - Dave
Hall
The Rough-legged Buzzard of the North
American race which was released off Shetland last autumn is still here as it
was seen over Channerwick today. Another early Pied Wagtail is at
Scatness. The Black-tailed Godwit is still at Pool of Virkie along with 4
Bar-tailed Godwits. There were just 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls
at Scalloway.
There were 5 Glaucous Gulls, 4 adults and
a first-winter, at Burrafirth during the day.
Tuesday 23rd January 2007 A
Greenfinch is at Ocraquoy and a Water Rail is at Cunningsburgh. A
first-winter Iceland Gull, a male Stonechat and 12 Red-throated
Divers are at Wester Quarff. There are 23 Chaffinches on Trondra.
A Song Thrush, 3 Snow Buntings, 9 Greylag Geese, a male
Merlin, a first-winter Glaucous Gull, 29 Rock Doves and 17
Twites are on Noss.
A Song Thrush is at Burrafirth and a
Goosander is still at Uyeasound.
Monday 22nd January 2007 There
are 14 Iceland Gulls at Scalloway - 12 first-winters, an adult and the
third-winter Kumlien's Gull. Another first-winter Iceland Gull is at
Gremista, Lerwick, and there are single first-winter Glaucous Gulls at
Scalloway and Lerwick. An unseasonable Pied Wagtail is in Scalloway.
A
Black-throated Diver is at Melby,
along with 38 Redshanks and 71 Wigeons. There are 30
Red-breasted Mergansers in Tresta Voe.
Sunday 21st January 2007 The
Gyrfalcon has been seen on Fetlar by local
inhabitants three time in the last few days.
The White-billed Diver
is still off Kirkabister, Nesting.
A
first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Baltasound.
Saturday 20th January 2007
The
male Bufflehead was still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst.
The male Ring-necked Duck
is still on Loch of Tingwall. A Waxwing is in Lerwick and 3
Goldcrests are at Catfirth. There are 2 Shelducks and 5
Moorhens at Loch of Spiggie. There are 2 Peregrine Falcons at
Scatness.

The male Ring-necked Duck
is still on Loch of Tingwall, 2 Goosanders at Strand Loch and 2
Goosanders at Sand Water. In Lerwick there are 2 first-winter
Iceland Gulls and a first-winter Glaucous Gull while 6
Iceland Gulls are in Scalloway, including the third-winter Kumlien's
Gull. There are 150
Chaffinches and 20 Fieldfares at Bixter. There are 4
Oystercatchers at Loch of Spiggie.
Thursday 18th January 2007
The
male Bufflehead was still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst in the morning. The Canada Goose is still at
Haroldswick and a Jack Snipe is at Baltasound.
A scatter of first-winter
Iceland Gulls include 3 at
Mangaster,
two showing characters of
Kumlien's
Gull,
one at
Mavis Grind
and another at Gremista, Lerwick. The third-winter Iceland Gull showing
characters of Kumlien's Gull is still at Scalloway.
A ringtail Hen Harrier is at Bixter along with 50
Chaffinches and 21 Fieldfares. Another 25 Fieldfares are
at Tingwall. There are 24 Redwings at Cunningsburgh.

The drake King
Eider is still in Mousa sound but pretty distant. A first-winter
Glaucous Gull and a first-winter Iceland Gull are at the Shetland
Catch at Gremista, Lerwick. The Smew and the Little Gull are still
at Loch of Hillwell. The Pink-footed Goose is still Sandwick. A
Greenfinch and 24 Twites are at Cunningsburgh.
A Peregrine Falcon and at least 50
Chaffinches are at Bixter and a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at
Melby.

The
male Bufflehead was still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst in the morning.

are at Gremista, Lerwick. There are still 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls at
Scalloway
Sunday 14th January 2007An adult
European White-fronted Goose is at Spiggie along with 7 Scaups, a
Pintail, 4 Coots and a first-winter Glaucous Gull. The
Little Gull is still at Loch of Hillwell but the Smew has moved to
Loch of Gards at Scatness. A Little Auk is at Levenwick. A Chiffchaff
is at Quendale. The overwintering Black-tailed Godwit is still at Virkie.
The Pink-footed Goose is at Sandwick with Greylag Geese. There were 2
Peregrine Falcons, a male and a female, at Bigton.
The male Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch of
Tingwall. There are still 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls at Scalloway. An
adult Iceland Gull is at Gremista, Lerwick. At
least 5 Little Auks are in Bressay Sound between Lerwick and Bressay.
Saturday 13th January 2007
The
male Bufflehead was still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst, but it had gone by mid-day. A Shoveler is at
Uyeasound. A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Gutcher on Yell.The
Gyrfalcon was seen north of Papil Water on Fetlar.
An adult Iceland Gull with characters of Kumlien's Gull
is at Loch of Hillwell and first-winter Iceland Gulls are at Loch of
Spiggie and Scatness. A 'Blue' Fulmar, 2 Little Auks and 3
Gadwalls flew past Virkie.

Siskin at Voe - Tony & Beth Gerrard
A male Siskin is at Voe; it has been present since
last September. The male Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch of
Tingwall. There are still 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls at Scalloway and
another Iceland Gull is at Westing on Unst.

There are 2 Tree Sparrows at Scousburgh. The 2
Moorhens are still at Sandgarth, Voe, and a dead Water Rail was
found there.

Iceland Gull at Lerwick - Dougie Preston
The
male Bufflehead is still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst. A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Burrafirth.
There are 6 Iceland Gulls in Scalloway harbour and one Iceland Gull
at the Catch in Lerwick. There are 3 Meadow Pipits at Nibon. At
Collafirth, North Roe, there are 12 Redwings and 5 Fieldfares.
A Long-eared Owl and a Hen Harrier are on Fetlar.

The
male Bufflehead is still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst.
There are 5 first-winter Iceland Gulls
and 2 first-winter Glaucous Gulls at Scalloway.
Sunday 7th January 2007
The
male Bufflehead is still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst, although it was not present yesterday; where it goes to when
it is absent is still unclear.
A flock of 42 Grey Herons was seen flying over Olna
Firth between Voe and Brae. A flock of 28 Snow Buntings is at
Sullom Voe and there are at least 150 Chaffinches in the neep field
at Bixter. The Smew is still at Loch of Hillwell and there are 2
Shelducks, a Little Grebe and 2 Merlins at Loch of
Spiggie. A first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Scatness.
Saturday 6th January 2007 The
Gyrfalcon has been reported again, over
Lambhoga on Fetlar.
An adult Little Gull is at Vatshoull,
Whalsay.
A Chiffchaff is at Swinister, Sandwick; it
is a collybita type bird. The first-winter Little Gull and the
redhead Smew are still at
Loch of Hillwell. The
male Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch of
Tingwall. There are still 3 first-winter Iceland Gulls at Scalloway,
along with a second-winter and the third-winter Kumlien's type. A ringtail
Hen Harrier is at Bixter, where there is still a flock of 100 Chaffinches.
Another first-winter Iceland Gull is at Mavis Grind, near Brae.
There are 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls at
Westing, Unst.
Friday 5th January 2007 The
male Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch of
Tingwall. There are still 5 first-winter Iceland Gulls
at Scalloway, along with a second-winter and the third-winter Kumlien's type. A
first-winter Glaucous Gull and a first-winter
Iceland Gull are at Lerwick.
The first-winter Little Gull and the
redhead Smew are still at
Loch of Hillwell.
Thursday 4th January 2007 The
male Bufflehead is still on Loch of
Snarravoe on Unst. Also on Unst, a first-winter Iceland Gull is at
Westing and a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Muness.
There are still 6 first-winter Iceland Gulls
at Scalloway, along with 2 first-winter Glaucous Gulls, while another
Iceland Gull is at Asta and a further 2 are at Lerwick.
The first-winter Little Gull is still at
Loch of Hillwell.

There are 2 Moorhens and 2 Common Redpolls at
Sandgarth, Voe.
