2007
The Melodious Warbler
was seen briefly at Baltasound, and the Rose-coloured Starling is still
there.
The Hawfinch is at Sumburgh Head. A
Pied Flycatcher is at Hoswick. There are 148 Greylag Geese, 300
Curlews, a Goldeneye, 18 Mute Swans and 110 Rock Doves
at Spiggie. Another flock of 300 Rock Doves is at Tingwall.
A Peregrine Falcon is at Isbister,
Whalsay.

Common Rosefinch at Virkie; Hawfinch at

A Melodious Warbler
is at Baltasound, along with the Rose-coloured Starling, while the
Common Rosefinch and a Red-backed Shrike are at Norwick.
A Hawfinch is at Sumburgh Head; it is
still moulting out of juvenile plumage and the only other 2 August records were
probably adults lingering from spring. A Common Rosefinch is at Virkie.
There are 450 Golden Plovers at Turdale
Water, Bixter.

The Killdeer is still at Pool
of Virkie, along with a Greenshank, while a Greenshank was also
seen at Scatness. A Pied Flycatcher and a Robin are at Hoswick. A
Green Sandpiper flew over Kirkidale, Walls.
A Common Rosefinch is at Gardie, Bressay.
The Rose-coloured Starling is still at Baltasound.
There were 4
Great Shearwaters
and 25+ Sooty Shearwaters at about 55 km SW of Foula
(or 40 km north of Westray); one Great Shearwater
followed the boat until it was about 40 km west of Sumburgh Head (or about 30 km south
of Foula).

Rose-coloured Starling at Baltasound

The Pallid Harrier
flew north over Loch of Spiggie in the late afternoon. The eclipse male King Eider
is still off Wester Quarff along with 759 Common Eiders. There are 36
Knots at South Ness in Lerwick. There are 2 Siskins at Sandgarth,
Voe.
The Rose-coloured Starling is still at
Baltasound, and a Common Rosefinch is at Norwick.

was still at Hoswick first thing, there are 40 Swallows at Hoswick and a
Common Sandpiper at Noness. An Iceland Gull is at Ness of
Hillswick. There are 2 Black-tailed Godwits on Whalsay.

The Killdeer flew over
Virkie calling in the morning, and a Black-tailed Godwit is at Pool of
Virkie. The eclipse
male King Eider is still off Wester Quarff.
The male
Ortolan Bunting is still at Hoswick.
A Wood Warbler is on Out Skerries, along with the
long-staying Tree Sparrow. A Barred Warbler is at Ham, Bressay.
At least 10 Great Shearwaters
were seen from a fishing boat about 27 km west of Fair Isle, along with 70
Sooty Shearwaters. One Great Shearwater
followed the boat to about 40 km SW of Sumburgh Head (still nearer to Orkney, at
bout 30 km distance). A juvenile Long-tailed Skua and a Sooty
Shearwater were seen off West Burra and 3 Sooty Shearwaters and a
Manx Shearwater were seen off Eshaness.

Little Gull and Common Snipe at Pool of Virkie

The Killdeer was on Pool of
Virkie, the first time it has been reported for over 2 weeks, and a first-winter
Little Gull and 3 Bar-tailed Godwits were also there. An eclipse
male King Eider is off Wester Quarff. A male
Ortolan Bunting is at Hoswick, and a
Greenish Warbler was reported there as well.
The adult Rose-coloured
Starling is still at Baltasound.
There are 5 Ruffs and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits at Voe
of Leiraness, Bressay, and a Garden Warbler and a summering Chiffchaff
at Gorie.

Norwick.

A juvenile Pallid Harrier was
near the Spiggie Hotel beside Loch of Spiggie and was then seen later moving
between Hillwell and Brow.
The adult Rose-coloured
Starling is still at Baltasound.
The Barred Warbler is still on Fetlar, along with a
Common Rosefinch and a Wood Warbler.
There are 2 Ruffs and 4 Knots at Eshaness. There
are 7 Ruffs at Voe of Leiraness on Bressay.

The Greenish Warbler is
still at Skaw
on Unst, although another was seen briefly at Northdale late morning but not
later, a Common Rosefinch is at Norwick and the adult Rose-coloured
Starling is at Baltasound along with 8 Ruffs.
A Corncrake, a Barred Warbler, 2 Garden Warblers,
2 Whinchat, a Pied Flycatcher, 2 Ruffs, 9 Black-tailed
Godwits and about 800 Golden Plovers are on Fetlar.
A
Barred Warbler and a Garden Warbler are at Sumburgh Hotel, a
Garden Warbler is at Toab, a Whinchat is at Sumburgh Head, a
Lesser Whitethroat is at Virkie and 150 Greylag
Geese at Loch of Spiggie. A Common Buzzard flew south over Firths Voe
at Mossbank. There are 2 Ruffs and 12 Knots at Voe of Leiraness on
Bressay.

A Greenish Warbler is at Skaw
on Unst, a Wood Warbler is at Norwick and the adult Rose-coloured
Starling is at Baltasound. There is also a Greenshank at Skaw, 3
Spotted Flycatchers and 2 Whinchats in north Unst, and several
Willow Warblers.
There are also Wood Warblers at Ocraquoy and Toab, a
Garden Warbler at Fladdabister, 25 Knots and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits
at Virkie, and the Spotted Redshank and 30 Knots at Scatness,
along with a scatter of Willow Warblers. A Garden Warbler and 28
Knots are on Noss.
Monday 20th August
2007
There are 45 Knots and a
Ruff at Pool of Virkie, and a Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Common
Sandpipers and 4 Knots at Boddam.
An adult Rose-coloured
Starling is at Baltasound along with 6 Ruffs, a
Spotted Flycatcher is at Northdale and 2 Whinchats are at Norwick.
Sunday 19th August
2007
A Barred Warbler is at Norwick, along with
2 summering Chiffchaffs, and a Spotted Flycatcher and a Grey
Wagtail are at Skaw, Unst.
The Spotted Redshank is still at Scatness,
although one at Pool of Virkie in the evening may have been the same bird. There
are also 132 Knots
and a Black-tailed Godwit at Pool of Virkie, 13 Knots and a
Ruff at Scatness, 13 Knots at Boddam, 7 Ruffs at Quendale, and
19 Ruffs and a Green Sandpiper at Quendale. There are 4
Shovelers at Loch of Spiggie, while there are 35 Linnets at Virkie
and a Willow Warbler at Toab.
There are 6 Sanderlings at Kirkabister and
10 Wigeons in South Nesting.

2 Manx Shearwaters were seen from the Papa Stour ferry this evening, about a mile off West Burrafirth. There are 24 Knot and a Bar-tailed Godwit at Virkie. A Willow Warbler is at Maywick.
