Tuesday 3rd August 2004

If you have not seen the national TV and press, birding press or the latest Shetland Bird Club newsletter, then the sad news is that it is the worst season for breeding seabirds on record. After two decades of indifferent breeding success, then we have almost become hardened, but when the Bonxies of Fair Isle and Foula can barely rear a chick between them then it really is time to use words like 'disaster'. As increasing sea temperature (presumably linked to Global Warming) appear to be to blame, then the prospect of an upturn in fortunes seems depressingly remote.
