On Unst, a first-winter White-rumped Sandpiper was
found in late afternoon, feeding along the road at Norwick. It was apparently
newly arrived, as it was not there 15 minutes earlier and did not want to leave
the road - which led to its demise as it was hit by a car and died. It may well
have failed to survive the night anyway, as it weighed a mere 24g (BWP
gives an average weight of 40-45g).
