Saturday 31st January 2009

There are 3 Iceland Gulls at the Catch in Lerwick and another 2 on Loch of Clickimin. There are 63 Knots at Breiwick, Tingwall, and 127 Wigeons at Loch of Benston. A Wood Pigeon is on Trondra. There are 2 Common Scoters off Scord, Sumburgh.

A ringtail Hen Harrier is at Geosetter and a second-winter Glaucous Gull is at Spiggie.

A Water Rail is at Baltasound.

Wednesday 28th January 2009

Long-tailed Duck and Black Guillemot at Lerwick - Rob Brookes; Long-tailed Duck at Lerwick - Gordon Carle; Grey Herons at Gremista - Elaine Waddell

There are 2 Shelducks and a Carrion Crow at Spiggie, 15 Fieldfares at Sumburgh, 24 Goldeneyes, 40 Purple Sandpipers, and 30 Oystercatchers at West Voe of Sumburgh, 25 Fieldfares, a Pintail and 40 Purple Sandpipers at Boddam and 1000 Golden Plovers at Fleck.

A Sparrowhawk is at Tingwall.

Peregrine at Scatness - George Petrie; Hooded Crow at Lerwick - Gordon Carle; Pintail at Boddam - Jim Nicolson

The King Eider is still in Mousa Sound. The Tundra Bean Goose is still at Sandwick along with a Pink-footed Goose, and there are 3 European White-fronted Geese at Spiggie

A Hen Harrier is at Kirkabister, North Nesting, and 3 Iceland Gulls are at the Catch in Lerwick.

There are 18 Whooper Swans at Kirk Loch on Yell and 9 at Uyeasound on Unst.

Water Rail at Burravoe - Dougie Preston; Shag at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson

The King Eider is still in Mousa Sound.

2 Iceland Gulls are at the Shetland Catch in Lerwick. 2 Scaup are at Lochend. 30 Snow Buntings are at Westerwick, 5 Whooper Swans and a Moorhen are at Culswick and 7 Whooper Swans are at Melby.

On Yell a Water Rail is at Burravoe and 22 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.

Glaucous Gull and Purple Sandpiper at Norwick - Wendy Dickson

The White-billed Diver is still at Kirkabister, along with 9 Great Northern Divers and 3 Red-throated Divers. The Tundra Bean Goose is still at Sandwick and the 3 European White-fronted Geese are still at Spiggie. 53 Snow Buntings are at The Wart, Sandwick. 3 Pochard and a Scaup are at Loch of Tingwall. 2 Iceland Gulls are at Laxo. 30 Chaffinches are at Twatt, 2 Goosanders are at Sand Water and 7 Slavonian Grebes are at Catfirth.

A Glaucous Gull is at Norwick and 9 Whooper Swans are at Uyeasound.

The Tundra Bean Goose is still at Sandwick and the 3 European White-fronted Geese are still at Spiggie. The drake King Eider is still at Mousa Sound. 25 Snow Buntings are at The Wart, Sandwick and a Chaffinch is at North Road, Lerwick.

A Common Buzzard is at Alma, Baltasound and a male Goosander is at Easter Loch.

On Yell there are 4 Whooper Swans at Sand Water and 13 at Kirk Loch.

There are 2 Glaucous Gulls and 3 Iceland Gulls around the Shetland Catch in Lerwick.

Tundra Bean Goose at Sandwick and European White-fronted Goose at Spiggie - Roger Riddington; Tundra Bean Goose and Greylag Goose at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson; Bar-tailed Godwit at Lamba Ness - Rob Brookes

A Tundra Bean Goose is at Sandwick. 3 European White-fronted Geese and a Little Grebe are at Spiggie, a Shelduck is at Hillwell and a Pintail and 2 Shelducks are at Boddam. A Peregrine is at Grutness. 4 Iceland Gulls are at the Shetland Catch in Lerwick and a Woodcock is at Cott, Weisdale.

2 European White-fronted Geese are at Baltasound and the Bar-tailed Godwit is still at Lamba Ness.

A Song Thrush is at Cullivoe.

Tuesday 20th January 2009

The drake King Eider is still in Mousa Sound. 2 Siskins are at Voe and 2 Chaffinches are at Sandgarth. 2 Greenfinches and a Chaffinch are at The Sletts in Lerwick.

6 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch, Yell.

Monday 19th January 2009

In Lerwick a Stonechat is at North Lochside and 2 Chaffinches are at North Road.

4 Glaucous Gulls (2 adults and 2 first-winters) are at Burrafirth and a Bar-tailed Godwit is at Lamba Ness. On Yell a Song Thrush is at Cullivoe and 3 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.winter

Kumlien's Gull at Lerwick - Dave Fairhurst

The first-winter Little Gull is still at Haroldswick, along with a Common Scoter there, a first-winter Iceland Gull is at the south end of Loch of Cliff and an adult and a second-winter Glaucous Gull are at Burrafirth.

The Coal Tit is still at Sandgarth, Voe. A Kumlien's Gull and 4 Iceland Gulls are at Shetland Catch in Lerwick, 2 Glaucous Gulls are at Gremista and another Glaucous Gull is at Holmsgarth. 30 Chaffinches and 3 Rooks are at Wester Quarff. A Slavonian Grebe is at Spiggie and a Pintail is at Boddam.

Eider at Lerwick - Gordon Carle

A first-winter Kumlien's Gull was between Scatness and Scord this morning. A Glaucous Gull is at Virkie. 2 Slavonian Grebes are at Wester Quarff.

A first-winter Little Gull is at Haroldswick, an adult and a second-winter Glaucous Gull are at Burrafirth and an adult Glaucous Gull and a male Goosander are at Uyeasound.

Glaucous Gull at Scord - Steve Minton; Pintail at Boddam - Gary Bell

An adult Iceland Gull is at Scatness and a Glaucous Gull is at Virkie/Scord. A Jack Snipe is at Quendale dunes and a Pintail is at Boddam.

There are 2 Iceland Gulls at the Shetland Catch in Lerwick and 4 Greenfinches at the Sletts.

8 Whooper Swans are at Uyeasound.

On Unst the Shore Lark is still at Lamba Ness, a Water Rail is at Alma, Baltasound and 5 Whooper Swans are at Uyeasound.

There are 5 Woodcocks and a Sparrowhawk at Greenlea Plantation, Kergord. 6 Iceland Gulls and a Glaucous Gull are at Shetland Catch, Lerwick. A Water Rail is at Wester Quarff and 8 Chaffinches, 20 Twite and 12 Fieldfares are at Twatt.

Long-tailed Duck at Lerwick - Gordon Carle

The Coal Tit and a Water Rail are at Sandgarth, Voe. 2 Greenfinches and a Chaffinch are at the Sletts in Lerwick.

Two first-winter Little Gulls are at Westing, Unst.

On Unst the Shore Lark is still at Lamba Ness although it was seen to fly off towards Skaw. An adult and a first-winter Glaucous Gull are at Haroldswick, two first-winter Glaucous Gulls are at Norwick and a first-winter and a second-winter Glaucous Gull are at Burrafirth.

A first-winter Kumlien's Gull was at Scatness in the morning and then at West Voe of Sumburgh in the afternoon. An adult Iceland Gull is at Cunningsburgh.

The Shore Lark is still at Lamba Ness on Unst and there are adult and a first-winter Glaucous Gulls at Haroldswick.

There are 5 Iceland Gulls and 2 Glaucous Gulls in Lerwick.

A male Goosander is at Baltasound and 5 Whooper Swans are at Wick of North Garth, Yell.

Friday 9th January 2009

On Unst the Shore Lark is still at Lamba Ness, 4 Whooper Swans are at Haroldswick and 13 are at Uyeasound. 5 Whooper Swans are at Wick of North Garth, Yell.

An Iceland Gull and a Scaup are at Loch of Clickimin and 3 Pochards are at Loch of Tingwall. A Shelduck and a Woodcock are at Spiggie and 6 Bar-tailed Godwits, 60 Dunlins and 300 Golden Plovers are at Virkie.

There are 16 Purple Sandpipers, 28 Long-tailed Ducks, 29 Ringed Plovers, a Great Northern Diver and 2 Meadow Pipits at Melby, 5 Whooper Swans at Loch of Murrester, 3 Whooper Swans at Stanervatsoe Loch and 10 Fieldfares at Dale of Walls.

7 Iceland Gulls and 2 Glaucous Gulls are in Lerwick around the Shetland Catch and Gremista. 2 Woodcocks are at Upper Kergord.

5 Whooper Swans are at Wick of North Garth, Yell.

12 Iceland Gulls are at the Shetland Catch in Lerwick.

On Unst a male Goosander and 13 Whooper Swans are at Uyeasound and on Yell there are 5 Whooper Swans at Wick of North Garth.

A Woodcock is at Sumburgh Head. 2 Slavonian Grebes are at Tresta.

Fieldfare - George Petrie

The 2 Tundra Bean Geese are still near Bigton. 24 Chaffinches and 18 Fieldfares are at Twatt. A Woodcock is at Styes of Stowcattern. 2 Chaffinches and a Greenfinch are at the Sletts in Lerwick. At least 140 Chaffinches are at Veensgarth. 3 Woodcocks are at Dale of Sandsound and 2 are at Cott, Weisdale.

A Song Thrush and 4 Chaffinches are at Norwick and Pink-footed Geese are at Baltasound and Uyeasound. 5 Whooper Swans are at Loch of Brough, Yell.

Pintail at Boddam - Jim Nicolson

On Yell, a probable grey morph Gyr Falcon is at Breckon, Cullivoe. A Snow Bunting, a Scaup and a Robin are at Burravoe.

The 2 Bean Geese are still near Bigton. The Common Scoter is still at Grutness, a Peregrine is at Scatness and a Pintail is at Boddam. A Slavonian Grebe, 12 Rooks and 2 Chaffinches are at Wester Quarff.

A Bean Goose is at Sandwick. An Iceland Gull and 6 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie and 2 Stonechats are at the Burn of Fitch. 3 Pochards are at Loch of Tingwall.

In Lerwick there are 4 Iceland Gulls at the Shetland Catch, 3 Iceland Gulls and a Glaucous Gull at Gremista, an Iceland Gull at Loch of Clickimin and 2 Chaffinches at The Sletts. A Common Scoter is at Grutness and a Woodcock is at Levenwick. A Glaucous Gull is at Bixter. 2 Great Northern Divers are at Banna Minn Bay, Burra.

On Whalsay an Iceland Gull is at Symbister and 3 Whooper Swans are at Vatshoull.

14 Whooper Swans are at Sand Water, Yell.
