Thursday 31st December 2009

Hooded Crow and Mallard - Dougie Preston; Greylag Goose at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson

50 Snow Buntings are at Loch of Flatpunds and 5 are at Loch of Murrister. 120 Wigeon, 7 Whooper Swans, 55 Ringed Plovers and 13 Purple Sandpipers are at Sandness.

On Unst 2 Jackdaws are at Baltasound and a Water Rail is at Skaw.

On Yell 19 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch and 2 are at Papil Loch.

Wednesday 30th December 2009

Purple Sandpiper on Whalsay - Jason Atkinson

3 Greenfinches are at Sound, Lerwick and 5 are at The Sletts.

A Song Thrush is at Brough, Whalsay.

A Woodcock is at Westing, Unst.

On Yell there are 14 Whooper Swans at Kirk Loch and 5 at Papil Loch.

Jackdaw at Sandwick - Jim Nicolson; House Sparrows at Twatt - Geoff & Verity Blackman; Goldeneye on Yell - Dougie Preston; Mute Swan on Out Skerries - Peter Flint; Whooper Swans at Spiggie - Hugh Harrop

A probable Snowy Owl was north of Scalloway, in the Loch of Burland area. 8 Jackdaws are at Sandwick. 3 Chaffinches and 3 Greenfinches are on Trondra and 2 Greenfinches are at Sound, Lerwick.

A Mute Swan, 3 Jackdaws and a Sky Lark are on Out Skerries.

On Yell a Jack Snipe is at Loch of Littlester, 10 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch, 5 are at Papil Water and 14 are at Gutcher.

On Whalsay a Jackdaw is at Symbister and a Song Thrush is at Brough.

8 Whooper Swans are at Easter Loch, Uyeasound.

Monday 28th December 2009

Jackdaws at Sandwick - George Petrie; Water Rail at Oxensetter, Northmavine - Stan Brown; Robin and Turnstone at Cunningsburgh - Robin Gosden; Wren on Yell - Dougie Preston

5 Jackdaws are at Sandwick. A Water Rail is at Oxensetter, Northmavine.

A Jack Snipe is at Loch of Littlester, Yell.

4 Bar-tailed Godwits and 15 Grey Herons are at Leiraness Voe, Bressay.

Barnacle Goose and Snipe at Spiggie - Hugh Harrop

A first-winter Glaucous Gull and 2 Barnacle Geese are at Spiggie.

A Long-eared Owl, 2 Pink-footed Geese and 4 Water Rails are on Fetlar.

Snow Buntings at Sandness - David Gifford; Long-tailed Duck at Lerwick - Gordon Carle; Goldeneye at Loch of Clickimin and Long-tailed Duck at Lerwick Harbour - Hugh Harrop

On Unst, a first-winter Glaucous Gull, 4 Slavonian Grebes, 4 Common Scoters and a Little Grebe are at Baltasound and a Song Thrush is at Norwick.

3 Woodcocks, 2 Jackdaws and a Mute Swan are on Out Skerries.

Common Crossbill at Helendale - Magnus Henry; Starling and Robin - George Petrie; Jackdaw at Brough, Whalsay - Jason Atkinson

In Lerwick a Common Crossbill is at Helendale and a Blackcap is at The Sletts.

On Unst a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Belmont, 5 Slavonian Grebes, 4 Common Scoters, a Water Rail, a Jackdaw and a Carrion Crow are at Baltasound and 4 Grey Herons are in north Unst.

On Yell a Goosander and 19 Whooper Swans are at Gutcher, 21 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch and 2 Grey Herons and a Song Thrush are at Cullivoe.

A Jackdaw and a Song Thrush are at Brough, Whalsay.

3 Jackdaws and 2 Sky Larks are on Out Skerries.

On Yell 2 Goosanders, a Grey Heron and a Brambling are at Gutcher, 11 Whooper Swans and 2 Coots are at Kirk Loch and a Bar-tailed Godwit is at Loch of Littlester.

A first-winter drake King Eider is at Haroldswick.

A Water Rail is still visiting a garden at Brae. 2 Chaffinches are at Twatt.

On Yell a drake Goosander and a Brambling are at Gutcher and 6 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Loch of Littlester.

A Woodcock is at Sumburgh Head and a Common Scoter is in Quendale Bay. 5 Greenfinches are at Sound, Lerwick. A Grey Wagtail is at Twatt.

A Jack Snipe is at Loch of Littlester, Yell.

A Pied Wagtail is at Cunningsburgh. The Blackcap is still visiting a garden at the Sletts in Lerwick.

There are still 4 Jackdaws along with a Chiffchaff at Baltasound.

There are still 2 Coots on Kirk Loch, Yell.

Blue Fulmar at Uyeasound - Rob Brookes; Turnstone at Grutness - Charles Gifford

On Unst, an Iceland Gull is at Lamba Ness, the Little Grebe is still at Baltasound and a Jackdaw is at Uyeasound.

There are 2 Dunnocks in a garden in North Road, Lerwick (one has been present since 25th November).

Swan Goose at Boddam - John Moncrieff

A Moorhen and a Water Rail are at Sandgarth, Voe. There are 14 Chaffinches at Twatt. A Swan Goose of the domestic form ('Chinese Goose') is at Boddam.

Sunday 13th December 2009

There are 2 Jackdaws at Sandwick and a Common Scoter in West Voe of Sumburgh. There are 28 Great Northern Divers off Colvdale, Unst.

Saturday 12th December 2009

On Unst, there are 2 Common Scoters at Haroldswick and singles at Burrafirth and Uyeasound, a Goosander still at Uyeasound, and 3 Common Redpolls, the Little Grebe and at least 3 Slavonian Grebes are at Baltasound.

There are 2 Coots on Kirk Loch, Yell.

A Blackcap is still visiting a garden at the Sletts, Lerwick.

A juvenile Moorhen is at Brough, Whalsay.

Robin at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson; Purple Sandpipers at Sandness - Geoff & Verity Blackman

An adult White-billed Diver is off Sound Gruney, north of Fetlar.

A Stonechat is at Brig o' Fitch, near Lerwick. A Water Rail is still visiting a garden at Brae. There are 66 Purple Sandpipers, 7  Robins, 6 Moorhens and 94 Wigeons at Sandness.

A Common Scoter and a Chiffchaff are at Brough, Whalsay.

A male Goosander is at Uyeasound on Unst. Just one Coot remains on Kirk Loch, Yell.

Moorhens at Spiggie - Charles Gifford; Bar-tailed Godwit, Robin and Turnstones at Burravoe - Dougie Preston

A male Stonechat is at Clickimin and 45 Knots flew through Lerwick harbour to land at Cruister on Bressay. There are 3 Greenfinches at the Sletts in Lerwick. A Sparrowhawk is at Scalloway. A Dunnock was trapped at Scousburgh.

On Yell, a Jack Snipe and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Loch of Littlester and 3 Coots are on Kirk Loch.

Wednesday 9th December 2009

Velvet Scoter on Yell - Dougie Preston

A Goldfinch and 2 Jackdaws are at Sandwick. There are 45 Snow Buntings at Lunna.

The Smew is still on Loch of Snarravoe, along with 2 Goosanders.

On Yell, a Velvet Scoter and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Loch of Littlester and 17 Whooper Swans are on Kirk Loch.

Partial albino Fieldfare at Bigton - Hugh Harrop (what was presumably the same bird was at Sandwick in mid-October)

A Carrion Crow and 5 Jackdaws are still at Baltasound and a Water Rail is at Uyeasound. There are 4 Greenfinches at Sound and a Blackcap at the Sletts, Lerwick. A Water Rail is still visiting a garden in Brae. There are still 2 Skylarks on Out Skerries.

Gadwall at Grutness - Hugh Harrop

The male Gadwall is still at Scatness, a Long-eared Owl is at Virkie, 2 Little Grebes are on Loch of Hillwell and 750 Golden Plovers are at Fleck. There are 3 Woodcocks at Sullom Voe Terminal. A male Goosander and 2 Slavonian Grebes are at Baltasound.

Saturday 5th December 2009

A Water Rail is at Huxter, Sandness, and a Peregrine Falcon is at Culswick. On Unst, a Long-eared Owl is at Baltasound, 2 Scaups are at Burrafirth and a Goosander is on Loch of Snarravoe.

Friday 4th December 2009

There are still 3 Coots on Kirk Loch, Yell. A Jackdaw is still at Baltasound.
