At least one Blue Tit is still at Fladdabister, along with a Great Tit and a Waxwing. A Great Tit and a Waxwing are at Toab, a Waxwing and 300 Snow Buntings are at Scatness and the 3 Brent Geese are still at Virkie. 8 Waxwings are at Gulberwick. In Lerwick, 8 Waxwings are in the Kirkland/Tesco area, 2 Waxwings are at Burgh Road, one Waxwing is at Scalloway Road and 3 Chiffchaffs are at Helendale. A Coal Tit is still at Sandgarth, Voe and the White-billed Diver is still at Kirkabister.

Three Grey Phalaropes are at Hamars Ness, Fetlar and at least 16 Little Auks are in Bluemull Sound.

On Unst, a pale-bellied Brent Goose , 28 Whooper Swans and 2 Mute Swans are at Uyeasound, a Yellow-browed Warbler, a Waxwing, a Blackcap, a Chiffchaff and a redpoll sp are at Halligarth and a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Burrafirth.

A Water Rail is at Buravoe, Yell.

Blue Tits at Fladdabister - Wendy Howroyd

Two Blue Tits are at Fladdabister, where they were first seen yesterday.

Quite a few Waxwings today: 15 at Helendale, Lerwick, 8 at Brae, 6 at Veensgarth, 4 at Quendale, 2 at Hoswick, 2 at Maywick, 2 at Mossbank, 2 at Cullivoe, Yell and singles at Sumburgh Farm and Ireland.

A Grey Phalarope is at Grutness. A Goldfinch, a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Robins and a Chiffchaff are at Toab. A Green Sandpiper, a Snow Bunting, a Blackcap, a Robin and a Chiffchaff are at Quendale and a Sparrowhawk, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap and a Robin are at Geosetter. The 3 Brent Geese are still at Virkie, a Robin and a Kestrel are at Sumburgh Farm and 3 Snow Buntings are at Mossy Hill. In Lerwick, 2 Stonechats are at Clickimin, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff are at Helendale, 4 Knot are at Seafields and 5 Knot are at the Sletts.

2 Little Auks and 180 Long-tailed Ducks are in Bluemull Sound.

On Unst, 4 Grey Phalaropes are still at Norwick and a Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff and a redpoll sp are at Halligarth.

Goldcrests are widespread.

The White-billed Diver has returned to Kirkabister and the drake King Eider has returned to Mousa Sound. Three Grey Phalaropes are still at Wick of Ireland and three are still at Moast beach, Scatness. The two Coal Tits are still at Sandgarth, Voe, along with 2 Goldcrests, a Water Rail and a Robin. Four Waxwings are at Lerwick, three are on Trondra and two are either at Bigton and/or Maywick. There are 60 Snow Buntings, 25 Goldcrests, a Robin, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap and a Song Thrush at Sumburgh Head and the 3 Brent Geese, a Knot and a Kestrel are at Virkie. 4 Whooper Swans, 2 Goldcrests, 2 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff are at Scatness. Two Goosanders are at Weisdale Voe.

On Unst, 4 Waxwings are at Baltasound and 2 Goosanders and 34 Whooper Swans are at Easter Loch.

Tuesday 28th October 2008

There are now 6 Grey Phalaropes at Wick of Ireland, 6 are still at Moast beach, Scatness and one is still at Virkie, where there is also 3 Brent Geese and 4 Snow Buntings. The 2 Coal Tits are still at Sandgarth, Voe, along with 2 Greenfinches, a Siskin and a Robin. An adult Kumlien's Gull is at Lerwick marina.

4 Grey Phalaropes are still at Norwick, Unst.

On Yell, a Glaucous Gull and a Scaup are at West Yell and 28 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.

Still lots of Grey Phalaropes today: 6 at Scatness, 4 at Virkie and one at Scord (although there may be some overlap with these birds), plus 4 at Norwick beach, Unst and now 4 at Wick of Ireland.

The 2 Coal Tits are still at Sandgarth, Voe, along with a Brambling, a Robin and a Siskin. The Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Clickimin. 3 Brent Geese and 10 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie, 40 Snow Buntings are at Garth's Ness, 7 Barnacle Geese and a Snow Bunting are at Quendale and 3 Gadwall are at Boddam. A Red-breasted Goose at Haggrister, Sullom was first seen there on 3rd September.

A Storm Petrel flew past Burravoe, Yell.

Lots of Grey Phalaropes today: at least 8 at Scalloway, 3 at Scatness, 3 at Hillwell (probably the Scatness birds) and 2 at Wick of Ireland.

The 2 Coal Tits are still at Sandgarth, Voe, along with 2 Common Redpolls, a Water Rail, a Robin and a Brambling. 2 Iceland Gulls are at Scalloway. 11 Greenland White-fronted Geese and 2 Brent Geese are at Scatness, 11 (different) Greenland White-fronted Geese are at Sumburgh, 39 Pink-footed Geese, 45 Whooper Swans and a Peregrine are at Spiggie and 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese and 6 Pink-footed Geese are at Fleck. A Goosander, 2 Knot, 3 Brent Geese and 10 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie, a Brent Goose, a Brambling, a Knot and a Peregrine are at Boddam, a Gadwall is at Levenwick and a Knot, 2 Sanderling and 50 Purple Sandpipers are at Grutness. A Common Sandpiper is at Sandwick, 2 Stonechats are at Asta, 6 Chaffinches are at Twatt and a Blackcap is at North Road, Lerwick.

2 Brent Geese are on Out Skerries.

A Water Rail and 17 Snow Buntings are at Burravoe, Yell.

The 2 Coal Tits are still at Sandgarth, Voe, along with 2 Blackcaps, a Robin and a Brambling. A White-rumped Sandpiper was at Virkie before flying off towards Scatness, a Grey Phalarope and 2 Brent Geese are also at Virkie and a Leach's Petrel was there in the late afternoon. Three Grey Phalaropes are at Boddam.

A Lesser Whitethroat is at Cullivoe, Yell.

Two Coal Tits are at Sandgarth, Voe. A Grey Phalarope flew from Sanblister beach, Scatness and landed in Quendale Bay. The 2 Brent Geese are still at Virkie, along with 10 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Brambling.

A Waxwing is at King Harald Street, Lerwick. A Glaucous Gull, a Little Grebe and 18 Whooper Swans are at Hillwell and 20 Pink-footed Geese, 9 Barnacle Geese, a Peregrine, a Stonechat, a Slavonian Grebe, 2 Pintails and 63 Whooper Swans are at Spiggie. 2 Brent Geese and 10 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie, 22 Snow Buntings and a female Pintail are at Scatness and 2 Great Northern Divers are in Quendale Bay. 12 Long-tailed Ducks and 35 Purple Sandpipers are at Melby.

On Yell, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Robin are at Cullivoe and 24 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.

On Unst, the Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Norwick with 12 north-western Common Redpolls.

A Waxwing is at St Olf Street, Lerwick and a Sparrowhawk is at Bakland, Lerwick.

A Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Chaffinches and 2 Bramblings are on Fetlar.

On Yell, a Blackcap is at Cullivoe and 17 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.

Stonechat at Tingwall - George Petrie

A Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is at North Roe, by the Sandvoe/Isbister junction and a Siberian Stonechat is at North Collafirth. The Long-tailed Tit was at Scatness briefly in the morning and a male Red-breasted Flycatcher was at Cunningsburgh briefly in the morning. The drake Ring-necked Duck and a Stonechat are at Loch of Tingwall. 2 Brent Geese and a female Goosander are at Virkie, a Great Northern Diver and 6 Long-tailed Ducks are at Bigton and 10 Chaffinches are at Wester Quarff. 12 Snow Buntings, 3 Pintails, a Black-tailed Godwit, a Sparrowhawk and a Blackcap are at Sandness

A Lesser Whitethroat and a Robin are at Cullivoe, Yell.

On Unst, a new Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is at Norwick with 18 north-western Common Redpolls, and a Little Bunting is at Skaw.

The White's Thrush and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Kergord and 40 Snow Buntings are at Loch of Benston. The Great Grey Shrike and a Common Rosefinch are at Toab. 2 Brent Geese are at Virkie.

On Yell, a Lesser Whitethroat is at Cullivoe.

The Long-tailed Tit was at Scatness during the morning and moved to Toab in the afternoon. The Great Grey Shrike and a Yellow-browed Warbler are also at Toab. The immature male Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Clickimin, a Lapland Bunting is at Ness of Sound, a Waxwing is at Wester Quarff and the Bluethroat is still at Channerwick. A Lesser Whitethroat is at Sumburgh Farm and a Goosander is at Virkie. A Kestrel and a Siskin are at Mossbank.

On Yell, 14 Whooper Swans are still at Kirk Loch.

The Long-tailed Tit is still at Sumburgh Hotel and the White's Thrush is still at Kergord. The immature male Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Clickimin and the adult male Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall. The Great Grey Shrike is still at Toab, a Barred Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Exnaboe, a Bluethroat is at Channerwick and 2 Brent Geese and 9 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie.

A Little Bunting is at Isbister, Whalsay.

On Unst, a first-winter Glaucous Gull is at Westing, 100 Snow Buntings are at Baltasound and 2 Mute Swans and 54 Wigeon are at Uyeasound.

On Yell, 14 Whooper Swans are at Kirk Loch.

The Long-tailed Tit is now at Sumburgh Hotel. A Coal Tit is at Toab, along with a Great Grey Shrike, a Common Rosefinch and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers. The male Red-breasted Flycatcher and a Barred Warbler are at Levenwick. A Goosander, 2 Brent Geese and 9 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie.

On Foula, a Lanceolated Warbler is at Hametoun Burn, the Short-toed Lark is still on the airstrip and a Richard's Pipit is at Harrier.

On Unst, the Hawfinch is still at Baltasound, 4 Whooper Swans and 2 Mute Swans are at Uyeasound, a Snow Bunting, a Brambling and a redpoll sp. are at Norwick and 10 Chaffinches are at Northdale.

2 Brent Geese and 2 Barnacle Geese are on Papa Stour.

A Glaucous Gull, a Chiffchaff, a Song Thrush and a Pintail are on Fetlar.

A Lesser Whitethroat and a Robin are at Cullivoe, Yell.

A Pechora Pipit is at Isbister, North Roe. The White's Thrush is still at Kergord, along with a Barred Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler. A Long-tailed Tit was at Sumburgh Head briefly and a Coal Tit was at West Voe of Sumburgh briefly. An immature male Ring-necked Duck is at Loch of Clickimin and the male Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall. A male Red-breasted Flycatcher and a Whinchat are at Levenwick and a Long-eared Owl is at Virkie. A Lesser Whitethroat is at Gremista.

On Unst, a Hawfinch and 65 Snow Buntings are at Baltasound and 5 Lapland Buntings are at Lamba Ness.

A White's Thrush is at Kergord and a Yellow-browed Warbler is also there. A Richard's Pipit and a Pink-footed Goose are at Toab, a Brambling and a Whinchat are at Exnaboe and a Reed Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Quendale. A Whinchat is at Sumburgh Head and 3 Grey Plovers are at Scatness. A Pied Flycatcher and a Lesser Whitethroat are at Hoswick. The drake Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall. A Yellow-browed Warbler is at Gulberwick and 3 Bramblings are at Helendale, Lerwick. A Brent Goose and a Pintail are at Boddam.

On Unst, a Waxwing is at Halligarth, 70 Snow Buntings are at Loch of Cliff, 2 Mute Swans and 3 Whooper Swans are at Uyeasound and 30 Barnacle Geese flew over Skaw.

On Yell, 5 Snow Buntings are at Burravoe and a Brambling is at Otterswick.

On Unst, a Blyth's Reed Warbler is at Norwick, along with a Marsh Warbler, a Reed Warbler, a Bluethroat, a Richard's Pipit and a Yellow-browed Warbler. A Lapland Bunting is at Lambaness and 2 Mute Swans are at Uyeasound.

The Siberian Stonechat and the Richard's Pipit are still on Out Skerries.

A Pectoral Sandpiper is at Kettla Ness, Burra. The drake Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall and a Great Grey Shrike is at Fladdabister. The Little Bunting is still at Toab and a Yellow-browed Warbler and a Reed Warbler are at Quendale. There are single Red-breasted Flycatchers at Lower Voe, Vidlin and Helendale, Lerwick. There are 4 Purple Sandpipers, 5 Sanderlings and 60 Ringed Plovers at Melby.

On Yell, a Glaucous Gull is at Mid Yell and 10 Whooper Swans and 50 Snow Buntings are at Kirk Loch.

On Unst, a Pectoral Sandpiper is at Haroldswick beach, 55 Snow Buntings are at Lamba Ness and 40 Snow Buntings are at Skaw.

The Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch of Tingwall. A Great Grey Shrike is at Quarff. The Little Bunting is still at Toab, 5 Brent Geese are at Virkie, a Brent Goose and 2 Pintails are at Boddam, a Brent Goose is at Quendale Bay and 28 Barnacle Geese are at Fleck. There are single Yellow-browed Warblers at Collafirth, Kergord and Scalloway.

On Yell, a Yellow-browed Warbler and a Kestrel are at Gloup and a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Burravoe.

A Little Bunting, a Grasshopper Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Toab. The Red-breasted Flycatcher is still at Sumburgh Head and a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Sumburgh Farm. A Brent Goose is at Quendale. A Yellow-browed Warbler is at Wester Quarff.

On Unst, the Marsh Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler are still at Norwick and a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Baltasound.

On Yell, a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Burravoe.

A Long-eared Owl is at Symbister, Whalsay.

A Great Grey Shrike is at Sumburgh Hotel and a Red-breasted Flycatcher is at Sumburgh Head. A Red-breasted Flycatcher and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Toab. A Red-breasted Flycatcher and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers are at Voe.

On Unst, a Lapland Bunting and 50 Snow Buntings are at Lamba Ness, a Waxwing, a Hawfinch, 3 Yellow-browed Warblers and 30 Snow Buntings are at Halligarth, a Marsh Warbler and a Yellow-browed Warbler are at Norwick and a Velvet Scoter is off Skaw.

There are 3 Glaucous Gulls, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 3 Reed Buntings, 2 Lesser Whitethroats and a Reed Warbler on Fetlar.

A Red-breasted Flycatcher, a Waxwing, 2 Crossbills, a Common Redpoll, a Brambling and a Fieldfare are at Sandgarth, Voe. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers are at Channerwick, one is at Virkie and 2 are at Voe.

On Yell, a Pectoral Sandpiper is at Ulsta, a Great Grey Shrike is at Mid Yell and 9 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Hamnavoe.

What is presumably the usual male Ring-necked Duck has returned to Loch of Tingwall. A Yellow-browed Warbler is at Geosetter, a Ring Ouzel and a Reed Warbler are at Sumburgh Head and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers are at Swinister.

On Whalsay, a Little Bunting is at Sandwick and a Ring Ouzel is at Skaw.

On Unst, there are 15 Barnacle Geese and a Waxwing at Baltasound, 18 Snow Buntings at Skaw and a Snow Bunting at Lamba Ness.

Long-eared owl at Quendale - Charles Gifford; Skylark at Burravoe - Dougie Preston

On Unst, a new Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is at Northdale and the other bird is still at Norwick, along with a Marsh Warbler and a Bluethroat. The Little Egret was picked up dead and half-eaten at Baltasound.

A new Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll was seen briefly at Burravoe on Yell.

A Long-eared Owl is at Quendale, a Barred Warbler is at Virkie and a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Sumburgh Farm. A Brent Goose is at Scatness. There are 2 Yellow-browed Warblers at Voe and 3 Waxwings flew over. A flock of 50 Chaffinches is at Twatt.

Arctic Redpoll at Cullivoe - Hugh Harrop

A Red-throated Pipit is at the pools at Clevigarth, north of North Town, Exnaboe, a juvenile Sabine's Gull flew over Old Scatness heading north, and a Bar-headed Goose at Fleck was relocated later on the north side of Loch of Spiggie. There are 2 Little Auks and  3 Arctic Terns at Bay of Quendale, 54 Pink-footed Geese, 29 Barnacle Geese and 2 Purple Sandpipers at Scatness and a Pintail at Sumburgh Farm. There are 5 Yellow-browed Warblers around Voe and one at Swining, and a Red-breasted Flycatcher at Sandgarth. A Snow Bunting is at St Ninian's Isle.

The King Eider, is still off Trondra, in Clift Sound.

On Unst, the Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Norwick, with a Marsh Warbler also reported there, a Barnacle Goose is at Uyeasound and a Waxwing and  7 Pink-footed Geese are at Baltasound.

A Pectoral Sandpiper is at Funzie, Fetlar, with 17 Pink-footed Geese, a Glaucous Gull, a Short-eared Owl, a Yellow-browed Warbler and 100 Snow Buntings also on the island.

The Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Cullivoe on Yell - it is often using the school grounds; please keep away from the school grounds on weekdays.

The usual male King Eider, in eclipse plumage, has reappeared in Clift Sound, off Trondra. Some Bramblings are new in at Sandgarth, Voe. An early Iceland Gull has been reported at Loch of Clickimin. There are 2 Yellow-browed Warblers at Lower Voe and one at Kergord. A Barred Warbler is at Hoswick. There are 31 Pink-footed Geese, 18 Barnacle Geese and an Arctic Tern at Scatness. A Glaucous Gull is at Eshaness and 9 Barnacle Geese flew south there.

On Unst, the Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Norwick, while a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Baltasound.

A flock of 25 Pink-footed Geese flew over Out Skerries. A Peregrine Falcon is at Burravoe, Yell.

A new Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is at Cullivoe on Yell.

The Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still on Foula along with the Short-toed Lark, the Ring-necked Duck, a Yellow-browed Warbler and a Goosander

On Unst, the Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Norwick along with 2 Common Redpolls. while the Little Egret and the Yellow-browed Warbler is still at Baltasound.

A Red-breasted Flycatcher and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers are at Channerwick and a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Fladdabister.

A Yellow-browed Warbler and a Reed Bunting are on Fetlar.

A Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler and a Richard's Pipit are on Foula along with the Short-toed Lark and the Ring-necked Duck.

On Unst, the Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll is still at Norwick along with 6 Common Redpolls, a Richard's Pipit and a Bluethroat, the Little Egret is now on the Houb at Baltasound, there are 50 Snow Buntings on Saxa Vord and 20 at Lamba Ness, a Yellow-browed Warbler at Baltasound, a Jack Snipe at Lamba Ness and a Long-eared Owl is at Uyeasound.

On Yell, a Honey Buzzard flew over Mid Yell at mid-day and there are 2 Yellow-browed Warblers at Otterswick and 2 at Burravoe.

A Richard's Pipit and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers are on Fetlar.

A Red-breasted Flycatcher, a Yellow-browed Warbler and several Greenfinches are at Sandgarth, Voe. A Yellow-browed Warbler is at Loch of Voe with others at Lower Voe and Voxter. A Kestrel and a Barred Warbler are at Kergord. There are 2 Grey Wagtails and a Siskin at Sandwick. A Red-breasted Flycatcher is at Sumburgh Head and a Hawfinch is at Virkie.

A Spotted Crake and a Marsh Warbler are at Quendale, A Marsh Harrier is at Ringasta, a Hawfinch is at Quendale, a Yellow-browed Warbler is at Garths Ness, a Sparrowhawk is at Geosetter and 25 Pink-footed Geese are at Scatness. The Kingfisher is still at Sandwick.

A Long-eared Owl and an Icterine Warbler are on Fetlar.
