Crossbills at Levenwick - Rob Fray; Spotted Flycatcher at Cunningsburgh - Jim Nicolson; Oystercatcher chick at Sandgarth - Tony & Beth Gerrard

Black-tailed Godwit, Whinchat, Willow Warbler and Arctic Terns on Fetlar - Brydon Thomason

A probable Blyth's Reed Warbler is at Northdale, Unst, although when trapped it showed some odd features (investigations are under way to see if it is within the variation of this species). Also on Unst, there are 3 Grey-headed Wagtails and a Sedge Warbler at Skaw, a Red-backed Shrike, a Ring Ouzel and a Wood Warbler at Norwick, and a Red-backed Shrike and an Icterine Warbler at Northdale.

A first-summer male Surf Scoter is at Catfirth.

There are 2 Common Rosefinches and a Marsh Warbler at Virkie, the Icterine Warbler and a Red-backed Shrike at Sumburgh Hotel and a Marsh Warbler and 2 Common Crossbills at Levenwick. A flock of 25 House Martins flew over Scousburgh. There are 2 Marsh Warblers at Wester Quarff as well as 7 Wood Pigeons, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Willow Warbler, 2 Siskins and a Glaucous Gull.

A Common Rosefinch, a Reed Warbler, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Common Whitethroat, 2 Whinchats and 4 Garden Warblers are on Fetlar.

A Marsh Warbler, a Red-backed Shrike and a Sparrowhawk are on Whalsay.

A Garden Warbler is at Sandgarth, Voe.

A Sparrowhawk is on Out Skerries.

An Icterine Warbler is on Noss along with 6 Swallows, 2 Lesser Whitethroats and a Willow Warbler.

Thrush Nightingale and Lesser Whitethroat at Grutness - Lee Mott

Thrush Nightingale at Northdale and Honey Buzzard over Northdale - Stef McElwee; Thrush Nightingale at Northdale and Nightjar at Baltasound - Mike Pennington

White-billed Diver off Skerries - Roger Tait; Red-backed Shrikes on Whalsay - Jason Atkinson; and on Mousa - Juan Brown; Icterine Warbler at Sumburgh Hotel - Lee Mott

The Black Stork was back at the Houb at the Sullom in the morning.

On Unst, a Thrush Nightingale is at Northdale, along with a Marsh Warbler and a Red-backed Shrike, a Honey Buzzard flew over Northdale in morning and was seen over Baltasound in the afternoon, a Nightjar was at Baltasound, the Subalpine Warbler is still at Norwick (and was heard in song), with a Red-backed Shrike, a Common Rosefinch and a Marsh Warbler also at Norwick, while there were Kestrels at Haroldswick and Baltasound.

Another Thrush Nightingale is at Grutness, along with a Grey-headed Wagtail. Another Grey-headed Wagtail and a Marsh Warbler are at Quendale, and a Common Rosefinch and a Sedge Warbler are at Scatness. There are 2 Common Rosefinches at  Virkie, Icterine Warblers at Sumburgh Head, Sumburgh Hotel and Quendale, and female Grey-head Wagtails at Grutness and Quendale. A Red-backed Shrike is on Mousa. A Common Nightingale is at Wester Quarff along with a Marsh Warbler, an Icterine Warbler, a Common Redstart and 6 Siskins.

A White-billed Diver is off Out Skerries with 2 Icterine Warblers, 3 Red-backed Shrikes, 11 Grey-headed Wagtails, a Sedge Warbler, a Reed Warbler, a Wood Warbler, a Tree Pipit, 2 Garden Warblers, 4 Common Whitethroats, a Tree Pipit, 20 Spotted Flycatchers and a Sparrowhawk on the isles.

There is a male Golden Oriole in Scalloway together with a Red-backed Shrike and a Red-breasted Flycatcher. A male Golden Oriole is at Kergord.

There are 5 Red-backed Shrikes (3 male 2 female), a Marsh Warbler, a Common Rosefinch and a Black Redstart on Whalsay.

On Fetlar, there are 2 Grey-headed Wagtails, 2 Red-backed Shrikes, a Short-eared Owl, 4 House Martins and 14 Swifts.

A Common Rosefinch and a Spotted Flycatcher are at Burravoe on Yell.

A Common Redpoll and a Common Redstart are on Noss.

Red-breasted Flycatcher at Hoswick - Lee Mott

The Black Stork was relocated in the evening, at the Houb at the Sullom and on the shore of Loch of Burraland, near Sullom, before it flew to Trolladale Water, near Nibon.

A first-summer male Subalpine Warbler of the western race is at Norwick along with a Common Rosefinch at Norwick and Skaw, a male Red-backed Shrike and a Marsh Warbler at Skaw, a female Red-backed Shrike at Northdale and 2 Common Crossbills and the Golden Oriole at Baltasound.

A Nightjar is at Leagarth, Fetlar, along with a Common Rosefinch, a Red-backed Shrike, a Grey-headed Wagtail and a Black Redstart.

Another Nightjar is at Symbister, Whalsay, with 3 Icterine Warblers, 2 Red-backed Shrikes (male & female), the Marsh Warbler, a Common Rosefinch and a Black Redstart also on the island.

There are 3 Icterine Warblers, 3 Red-backed Shrikes, a Common Rosefinch and a Bluethroat in the Sumburgh area. A female flava Wagtail is at Quendale, and a Black-tailed Godwit, a Sand Martin and 3 House Martins are at Hillwell. A Red-backed Shrike and a Bluethroat are at Cunningsburgh. A Red-breasted Flycatcher is at Hoswick. A Redwing and a Garden Warbler are at Ocraquoy. An Icterine Warbler is at Wester Quarff along with a Common Redstart, 5 Wood Pigeons, 2 Spotted Flycatchers and a Glaucous Gull.

A Hawfinch is at Veensgarth. Another Hawfinch is at Mossbank. A Kestrel and 2 Swallows are at Sandgarth, Voe. There is a Moorhen at Tingwall.

An Icterine Warbler is at Cullivoe, Yell.

Red-necked Phalarope and Red-backed Shrike on Fetlar - Wendy Dickson; Redshank on Unst - Mike Pennington; Shags at Lerwick and Red-breasted Mergansers at Strand - Gordon Carle

A Black Stork, almost certainly the bird that was in Orkney recently, flew NE over Ronas Hill at about 11:00am. It is only the second for Shetland, following one at Loch of Hillwell on 3rd-6th May 1977. A Goosander is at Lochend and 2 Manx Shearwaters flew past Eshaness.

A Red-breasted Flycatcher is at Brough on Whalsay with 4 Red-backed Shrikes (2 males, 2 females), a Marsh Warbler, an Icterine Warbler, 12 Spotted Flycatchers, a Sparrowhawk and a Common Swift also on the island.

There is an Icterine Warbler at Helendale as well as a Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Pied Flycatchers, a Chiffchaff and a Siskin. A Long-eared Owl, a Redwing and a Spotted Flycatcher are at Kergord and there are 3 Swallows at Tingwall.

A Common Rosefinch is at Sumburgh Head and a Bluethroat is at Sumburgh.

There are 2 male Red-backed Shrikes on Fetlar along with a Sparrowhawk, a Turtle Dove, 3 Spotted Flycatchers, a Common Whitethroat and 2 Lesser Whitethroats.

There is a Golden Oriole at Halligarth in Unst along with a Sparrowhawk at Norwick and a Common Swift, 3 Swallows, a House Martin, 2 Common Redstarts, 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers and 3 Spotted Flycatchers in the north end of the island.

There are 3 Common Scoters, a Sparrowhawk, 3 Common Swifts, 4 Swallows, a House Martin, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, a Spotted Flycatcher and a Red-backed Shrike on Noss.

'Blue' Fulmar, Twite, Turnstone, Sanderling, Ringed Plover, Golden Plover and Dunlin on Unst - Stef McElwee

The first-summer male King Eider was on Pool of Virkie in the early morning but not later and a Grasshopper Warbler is singing at Virkie willows.

The Quail is still calling at Westing.

A Common Swift is on Out Skerries.

Common Sandpiper at Grutness and Tawny Pipit at Dalsetter - Jim Nicolson

A Subalpine Warbler was at Scatness this morning, and it (or another) was at Sumburgh Hotel briefly. There are also 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a House Martin and a Chiffchaff at Sumburgh Hotel, a Sedge Warbler at Sumburgh Farm, a Sparrowhawk and 3 House Martins at Sumburgh Head and a Whinchat at Scatness. The Tawny Pipit is still at Dalsetter and a Sparrowhawk is at Mossy Hill. There are 10 Siskins, a Common Redpoll, a Redwing, 2 Blackcaps, a Willow Warbler, a Robin and a Goldcrest at Kergord.

On Unst, a Quail is calling at Westing.

The Tawny Pipit is still at Dalsetter. A first-summer male King Eider is off Scord beach, Sumburgh and Little Stint is at Moast beach, Scatness. A Common Redpoll is at Spiggie, 3 Scaup are at Brow Loch, 2 Gadwall are at Hillwell and 22 Sanderlings are at Virkie. Two Common Cranes were reported flying north-east over Sandness Hill at 4pm.

A Tawny Pipit, 2 Temminck's Stints and a female Bluethroat are at Dalsetter. 4 Dotterel, a Hen Harrier and a Kestrel are at Sandness Hill. A Wood Sandpiper and a Black Redstart are at Scatness, a Gadwall, 2 Shoveler and a Scaup are at Hillwell and a Pied Flycatcher is at Geosetter.

Two Ruff, a Pied Flycatcher, 2 Willow Warblers and a Chiffchaff are on Fetlar. A Greenshank is at Mid Yell Voe and a Sparrowhawk is on Out Skerries.

A Long-eared Owl is at Burravoe, Yell.

A Spotted Flycatcher and a Garden Warbler are at Geosetter and a Jackdaw is at Virkie.

On Unst, a Grey-headed Wagtail and a Wood Sandpiper are at Burrafirth and a Wood Sandpiper is at Haroldswick. A Common Crane was reported at Uyeasound.

Three Dotterel are at Mid Field, by Ronas Hill, and a Snow Bunting is also there. A Red-necked Phalarope is at Houb of Scatsta, 6 Common Scoters are at Hillswick, a Spotted Flycatcher is at Scatness and a drake Scaup is at Loch of Hillwell.

Wood Pigeons at Sandgarth - Tony Gerrard

A female Subalpine Warbler is at Wester Quarff, and a female Marsh Harrier flew south there in the evening. Two Dotterel are at Mid Field, by Ronas Hill. A first-summer Little Gull is at Spiggie, 22 Sanderlings are at Grutness and 12 Wood Pigeons are at Sandgarth, Voe.

On Fetlar, the first Red-necked Phalaropes returned today. Also on the island are 2 Sparrowhawks and there was an unconfirmed report of a Wryneck.

A Sparrowhawk is at Scatness, 11 Common Scoters are off Lerwick, a Great Northern Diver is at Voxter Voe and 2 Grey Wagtails are at Valayre Burn.

A summer plumaged White-billed Diver is off Uyea, north mainland. A Marsh Harrier is at Spiggie, a Long-eared Owl is at Cunningsburgh, a Pied Flycatcher is at Wester Quarff and a Siskin, 2 Blackcaps and 10 Wood Pigeons are at Kergord.

A Pomarine Skua is in Yell Sound and a Sparrowhawk is on Fetlar.

An Icterine Warbler is singing at Ham, Foula.

A Pied Flycatcher is at Wester Quarff, a Kestrel is at Graven and a Carrion Crow is at Garths Ness.

On Unst, 4 Common Scoters are at Lund, a Sparrowhawk is at Belmont, a Turtle Dove is at Haroldswick and a Purple Sandpiper is at Norwick.

Common Rosefinch at Virkie - Rob Fray

A Green-winged Teal is at Melby. A Common Rosefinch is at Virkie, along with a Reed Bunting, a Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaffs and 3 Linnets, and 4 House Martins and a Chiffchaff are at Sumburgh Head. There are 2 Swallows at Veensgarth, 17 Wood Pigeons and a brood of Mallards at Gott and a Willow Warbler and 5 Mute Swans at Strand.

A Tree Pipit, a Sparrowhawk, a Whitethroat, a Chiffchaff and a Robin are on Out Skerries. On Unst, an Iceland Gull, a Redwing and a Snow Bunting are at Uyeasound and a Carrion Crow is at Haroldswick.

A male Golden Oriole and 2 Greenfinches are at Sandgarth, Voe. 11 Sanderlings are ar Scatness.

A female Bluethroat is on Foula, along with a Redstart, a Yellow Wagtail, a White Wagtail, a Wood Pigeon, a Carrion Crow and a Common Sandpiper.

On Unst, 8 Siskins, a Carrion Crow and 59 Hooded Crows are at Baltasound and a Tree Pipit and 3 Chiffchaffs are at Valyie. On Noss, there are 2 Swallows, a House Martin, 2 Chiffchaffs and a Barnacle Goose.

A Subalpine Warbler is at Hoswick. A Reed Bunting and a Chiffchaff are at Virkie, a Siskin is at the Sletts in Lerwick and 25 Sanderlings are at Melby. A flock of 60 Knot flew through Bluemull Sound.

A Yellow-browed Warbler and a Subalpine Warbler are on Foula, along with a Redstart, a White Wagtail, a Yellow Wagtail, a Wood Pigeon and 4 House Martins.

A Swallow and 2 Chiffchaffs are on Noss.

On Unst, a Hawfinch and a Turtle Dove are at Baltasound and a Turtle Dove is at Haroldswick.

A Wood Sandpiper is on Mousa. A Common Sandpiper and 10 Sanderlings are at Grutness, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Robin are at Sumburgh Head and a Reed Bunting, a Siskin, a Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Knot are at Virkie.

A Ring Ouzel is on Foula and a Manx Shearwater was seen on the crossing.

3 Chiffchaffs are on Noss.

Monday 12th May 2008

Turtle Dove at Haroldswick - Rory Tallack; Wheatears at Sumburgh - Jim Nicolson

A Golden Oriole was reported at Hillwell and a Reed Bunting, a Chiffchaff, 8 Sanderling and 3 Bar-tailed Godwits are at Virkie. A Tree Pipit is at Kergord and 5 Siskins are at Twatt.

On Unst, a Turtle Dove is at Haroldswick and a Greenshank and a Willow Warbler are at Burrafirth.

A Willow Warbler and 3 Chiffchaffs are on Noss.

Arctic Terns at Uyeasound - Mike Pennington; Little Gull at Spiggie - Russ Haywood; Kestrel at Sumburgh - George Petrie; Cuckoo on Foula - Geoff Atherton

An Icterine Warbler, a Pied Flycatcher and a Black Redstart are on Fetlar, and 22 Great Northern Divers are offshore there.

The Golden Oriole is still at Haroldswick on Unst.

A Little Gull is at Spiggie, a Pied Flycatcher, a Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs are at Geosetter and 2 Shovelers are at Hillwell. A Pied Flycatcher, a Kestrel, a Blackcap and 2 Chiffchaffs are at Sumburgh, a Blackcap is at Grutness, a Reed Bunting is at Quendale and a Knot, a Sanderling, a Siskin, a Chiffchaff, a Reed Bunting and a Lesser Whitethroat are at Virkie. 21 Knot are at the Sletts in Lerwick and a Blackcap and 2 Chiffchaffs are at Hoswick. A Kestrel is at Eshaness and a Spotted Flycatcher and 2 Blackcaps are on Trondra.

A Cuckoo is on Foula. On Noss there is a Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, a Wood Pigeon and 5 Mute Swans.

There are 3 Bluethroats (a male and 2 females) on Out Skerries along with 4 Common Whitethroats, several Chiffchaffs, a Garden Warbler, a Willow Warbler, a Whinchat, a Sedge Warbler, a Robin, a male Ring Ouzel and a House Martin.

A Turtle Dove is at Haroldswick and the Hawfinch is still at Baltasound.

A Yellow Wagtail, 2 Whitethroats, 5 Chiffchaffs and a Willow Warbler are on Noss.

There are 4 Greenfinches at Sandgarth, Voe.

Long-eared Owl at Scatness - Steve Minton

A Golden Oriole, probably the bird from earlier in the week, is at Haroldswick and the Hawfinch is still at Baltasound.

A Quail, a Long-eared Owl and a Black Redstart are on Fetlar.

A male Bluethroat is on Noss, along with 2 Knot, a Whimbrel, 10 Swallows, a Song Thrush, a Garden Warbler, 4 Chiffchaffs and 2 Willow Warblers.

A Long-eared Owl is at Scatness and a Reed Bunting is at Virkie. A Siskin, a Chiffchaff and 2 Wood Pigeons are at Helendale, another Siskin is in Lerwick and 2 Wood Pigeons are at Lerwick Observatory. There are 5 Siskins, a Chiffchaff, a Common Redpoll and a Wood Pigeon are at Sandgarth, Voe. A Kestrel is at Twatt.

A Spotted Flycatcher is at Quendale, a male Garganey is on Loch of Spiggie, a Kestrel and a Garden Warbler are at Scousburgh, a Brambling is at Bigton and a Common Sandpiper is at Grutness. The male Bluethroat is still on Mousa.

The male Yellow Wagtail is still on Noss.

A Fieldfare is on Lamba Ness, Unst.

Hawfinch at Baltasound - Mike Pennington

A male Bluethroat and a Sedge Warbler are on Mousa.

On Unst, a female Hawfinch is at Baltasound, a Wood Sandpiper is at Haroldswick, a House Martin is at Skaw and a Common Redpoll, 4 Purple Sandpipers and 2 Sanderlings are at Norwick.

A Tree Sparrow is at Quendale and a Carrion Crow and 2 Wood Pigeons are at Wester Quarff. There are 12 Sanderlings at Melby.

A male Yellow Wagtail is on Noss along with a Garden Warbler and a Song Thrush.

Garganey at Lerwick - Larry Dalziel

A male Garganey is on Noss, the first for the island, along with a House Martin, 4 Chiffchaffs and 2 Willow Warblers.

A male Garganey is at Lerwick, the Hawfinch is still in North Road, Lerwick, and 2 Wood Pigeons are at Helendale. A male Hawfinch is at Aith.

A Pink-footed Goose, 32 Arctic Terns and a Cormorant are at Uyeasound. A Kestrel is at Hagdale on Unst.

A Common Redstart is on Mousa.

On Unst, a Golden Oriole was briefly at Northdale, a possible Richard's Pipit was at Norwick, with the Great Tit also still present there, while a Gadwall is at Haroldswick, Common Whitethroats are at Baltasound and Burrafirth, a Common Swift and a Short-eared Owl are also at Baltasound, and a male Garganey is at Easter Loch..

A female Yellowhammer is at Mid Yell.

A Greylag Goose, a Common Sandpiper, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Collared Doves, a Swallow, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Common Redpoll and a Chaffinch are on Out Skerries.

A Common Sandpiper, 2 House Martins, 4 Blackcaps, a Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Chiffchaffs and 4 Willow Warblers are on Noss.

There are 7 Wood Pigeons and a Carrion Crow at Quendale, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Blackcap at Sumburgh Head, 250 Arctic Terns at Grutness along with 2 Blackcaps and 3 Chiffchaffs, a Robin is at Sumburgh Head and 2 Siskins are at Scatness..

Common Tern at Spiggie - George Petrie

A Hawfinch and a Chaffinch are in North Road, Lerwick. There are 5 Siskins, 3 Blackcaps, a Robin and a Redwing at Sandgarth, Voe, and 4 Swallows at Strand.

There are 3 Blackcaps, a Common Whitethroat, 2 Chiffchaffs and 2 Willow Warblers on Noss.

There are 2 Gadwalls at Haroldswick and a Lesser Whitethroat and 2 Willow Warblers are at Burrafirth on Unst.

Lesser Whitethroat at Virkie - Dave Gifford; Fulmar at Skaw - Mike Pennington; Siskin at Oxensetter - Stan Brown

A Hoopoe was flushed from the road near Loch of Snarravoe, Unst, 3 Carrion Crows are at Uyeasound, a Great Tit is at Norwick and a pair of Pintails and 9 Swallows are at Skaw.

A Grasshopper Warbler and a Sedge Warbler are on Whalsay.

A Bar-tailed Godwit is on Out Skerries.

The Wryneck is still on Noss along with a Whimbrel, a Swallow, a Common Whitethroat, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Chiffchaffs and 2 Willow Warblers.

There are 2 Chiffchaffs at Grutness, 2 Reed Buntings at Virkie and a Blackcap and a Willow Warbler at Hoswick. A Jackdaw, a Brambling, a Chaffinch, 2 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warblers, 3 Robins and 2 Wood Pigeons are at Quarff. At Sandgarth, Voe, there are 2 Blackcaps and 2 Siskins.

Wryneck at Skaw - Brydon Thomason

Wheatear, Oystercatcher and Lapwing at Skaw - Mike Pennington

Wood Warbler at Lunna - Dave Gifford; Iceland Gull at Quendale - Steve Minton; Willow Warbler at Sumburgh - Jim Nicolson; Shoveler - George Petrie

A Wryneck is at Skaw, Unst, with a Wood Warbler at Baltasound, a female Bullfinch and a Common Redpoll at Burrafirth,  Whinchats at Norwick and Haroldswick and a Pied Flycatcher at Belmont.

There are 4 Blackcaps, 2 Robins and 2 Chiffchaffs at Geosetter, a male Scaup at Loch of Spiggie, a Ruff, 3 Shovelers and 5 Sand Martins at Hillwell, an Iceland Gull at Quendale, and a Lesser Whitethroat, Reed Bunting and a Dunnock at Virkie. A pair of Shovelers are at Loch of Huesbreck and a Green Sandpiper, a Song Thrush, a Robin, a Dunnock, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Chiffchaff are at Ocraquoy.

There are 2 Hawfinches in Scalloway. A Garden Warbler is in Lerwick and a male Scaup is on Loch of Clickimin. A Chiffchaff and a Siskin are at Sandgarth, Voe.

A Merlin, a Wood Pigeon, a Wryneck, 4 Swallows, a Ring Ouzel, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Common Whitethroats, 4 Blackcaps, 10 Chiffchaffs and 2 Willow Warblers are on Noss.

Lesser Whitethroat at Sumburgh - George Petrie; Red Grouse at Sand Water and Pied Wagtail at Clickimin - Gordon Waddell; Cuckoo at Sumburgh - Brydon Thomason

A Wryneck and a female Bullfinch are at Burrafirth with 3 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, a Common Whitethroat and a Lesser Whitethroat at Baltasound, 4 Reed Buntings at Haroldswick and another at Skaw, and a Ring Ouzel at Northdale.

A Wryneck and a Ring Ouzel are on Whalsay.

On Out Skerries there is a Kestrel, a Collared Dove, Wood Pigeon,10 Swallows, 5 Sand Martins, a House Martin, a Carrion Crow, a Siskin, 2 Pied Flycatchers, a Common Redstart, a Whinchat, 3 Tree Pipits, 7 Reed Buntings, 2 Ring Ouzels, 15 Chiffchaffs, 15 Willow Warblers, a Common Whitethroat and 25 Fieldfares.

The Marsh Harrier is still at Sand Water. There are 8 Swallows at Loch of Clickimin and 5 at Strand. A male Pochard is at Loch of Voe.

A Cuckoo is at Sumburgh Head along with 2 Lesser Whitethroats. A Common Redstart, 2 Whimbrels and 4 Swallows are at Scatness.

A Wood Pigeon, 4 Swallows, 8 Blackcaps, a Common Whitethroat, a Common Redstart, 6 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Wryneck, a Robin ,a Fieldfare, 2 White Wagtails and a Pied Wagtail are on Noss.
