Recording Insects

At the moment, records of Lepidoptera (moth and butterflies) and Syrphidae (hoverflies) are collected by the County Recorder, Mike Pennington, and are entered on the Shetland Entomological Group database. All other records are best submitted to the Shetland Biological Records Centre.

The majority of records of moths in Shetland are produced from light-traps. Records from light-traps are best submitted as Excel spreadsheets, although tabulated data on paper is also acceptable. Other records may be submitted in any form.

A review of record submission may take place after the 2003 season.
