Lists of all the insect groups studied in Shetland
have been added in the Insect
Checklists.
The
Shetland Entomological Group was established in 1992 to try and encourage
an interest in insects. At the moment the Group does not have a formal
membership and production of the annual Lepidoptera report is behind
schedule. The Group's aims are to:
- promote the study
of insects and entomology within the islands
- co-ordinate and
collect entomological records and those of other terrestrial
invertebrates where appropriate
- co-operate with
national and local bodies in entomological studies
- establish contacts
between interested individuals
- promote a wider
interest in the environment via the study of one of the more neglected
areas of natural history
The group is currently in abeyance and
it's role is performed by SBRC.
